These refreshing tropical cascades are a welcome relief after a long dusty drive over hundreds of kilometers of corrugations and bulldust. AUTUMN CASCADE ALONG NEWFOUND GAP ROAD.
Featured in the Nikon DSLR Users Group, UK National Parks and Waterfall Photography groups NOV 2008. Also in the All Water in Motion group DEC 2008. Nikon D80-Nikkor 18-135mm-Hoya Pro1 CPL / f-16 at 2 sec exposure / ISO 100 18mm focal length Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Scaleber Force is convenienly situated by the road side (Settle to Airton) so nobody needs walk more than a few yards to view the waterfall. As with many waterfalls in the Yorkshire Dales its a surrounded by a small copse. The drop on the waterfall is around 20 feet. The best option to include the waterfall with a decert walk is from Malham Tarn to Settle via Langscar Gate then Stockdale Lane rather than the usual route past Attermire Scar.
Thornton Force is the most famous of the waterfalls on the trail, located 1½ miles from the car park and not to be missed! Here the river falls 14 metres over limestone rocks in an impressive cascade of water. Featured in the #1 Artists of Redbubble group AUG 2009. Winner of the Stream Crossings – Flood Waters Challenge MAY 2009.
This shot was the location I was aiming for when I took Buffalo Dawn and Dawn above a sea of clouds . This is the top of a huge cascade that plummets hundreds of meters down the buffalo slabs a magnificient spot I havn’t seen any other images from. The headwaters of the Taggerty River starts in Melbourne’s closest ski resort, Lake Mountain. The closest town to Lake Mountain is called Marysville which is blessed with many nearby waterfalls, one of the most popular is the Taggerty River which has a circuit walk near it named after the Beeches which line part of the walk. I’m always amazed at the tenacity of life, how that fern can grow on that soiless rock in the middle of a river ??? amazing. I was up there a few weeks ago and got my slides back yesterday. I’ve been very impressed with my new 24-70mm f/2.8L lens, very fast and sharp but the surprise for me has been far more accurate colour. With my old lens (the mid range 24-80mm) the colour tended to shift to blue far more with these long exposures. Featured in the Yorkshire Grit Group and the UK National Parks group DEC 2008. Surely anyone who knows anything about the Yorkshire Dales knows about Aysgarth Falls. They are the most visited of all in the Dales because of their location, close to the A684 Wensleydale arterial road. Aysgarth Falls is a series of cascading falls separated into three forces, High, Middle and Low. High Force is the most vivacious of the group whereas Middle Force had the largest single drop of around 2 metres. Low Force is the most serene. Captured looking East just outside my living room window, on 09/03/09 at 6:48AM… that’s Mount Lassen (aka: Lassen Peak) midscreen to the right – Please view in large format…. Lassen Peak (also known as Mount Lassen) is the southernmost active volcano in the Cascade Range. It is part of the Cascade Volcanic Arc which is an arc that stretches from northern California to southwestern British Columbia. Located in the Shasta Cascade region of Northern California, Lassen rises 2,000 feet (610 m) above the surrounding terrain and has a volume of half a cubic mile, making it one of the largest lava domes on Earth.[5] It was created on the destroyed northeastern flank of now gone Mount Tehama, a stratovolcano that was at least 1,000 feet (300 m) higher than Lassen. Lassen Peak has the distinction of being the only volcano in the Cascades other than Mount St. Helens to erupt during the 20th century. On May 22, 1915, an explosive eruption at Lassen Peak devastated nearby areas and rained volcanic ash as far away as 200 miles (320 km) to the east.[5] This explosion was the most powerful in a 1914–17 series of eruptions that were the last to occur in the Cascades before the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington. Lassen Volcanic National Park was created in Shasta County, California to preserve the devastated area and nearby volcanic geothermal features. Unlike most lava domes, Lassen is topped by craters. A series of these craters exist around Lassen’s summit, although two are now covered by solidified lava and sulfur deposits. Lassen is the largest of a group of more than 30 volcanoes that have erupted over the past 300,000 years in the Lassen Volcanic Center. / Compliments of Wikipedia /
