A lot of stuff i’ve encountered lately has been of polish origin, i’ve never been to Poland but ever since i was a child i’ve had this kinda romantic view about Poland just because my father (who is an actor) toured with his theater there and brough back a lot of opera/movie posters that are just awesome. So lately i’ve been listening to polish “chopped and screwed” rap music such as Don Guralekso “cisza” , Stereofonia ” dwzieki stereo” and a lot of Dj Zorro/Dj Pat tracks, i’ve just bought 3 books with polish movie/opera/theater posters from the 1930’s – 1990s, my friend Ben got his hands on a polish version of the Alice in wonderland fairytale on lp which is like a psychedelic rollercoaster ride and we also got a copy of the polish Mumin (finnish fairytale by genius Tove Jansson) which has a sleeve that is so tastefully done it makes my drawing nerves hurt… Also last year i managed to get some polish/tjeckoslovakian animation dvds from the 60s – 80s which is also like hannah barbera cartoons on acid with ultra graphical artists doing the characters. I think i must go to Poland, seems like a nice place.

Hey Everyone, I haven’t yet written a journal entry yet, mainly because I’m lazy and also because Lorie has been doing such a good job of it. But maybe it’s time to step forward a bit and let you in on a bit more about me. Many of you have left great comments about my cartooning and artwork, which is very encouraging indeed. Sometimes when inspiration is low, getting some supportive feedback can light the fire under by butt to work again. I know Lorie appreciates it massively as well. Basically my style is the sum of my influences, mostly from underground greats like Vaughn Bode and Robert Crumb. I also love silent animation of the twenties and look to early horror films for inspiration also. And speaking of horror, my 9 year old daughter Eve has been giving us some great ideas for horror and zombie based designs lately. Rarely have I ever been so proud in my time as a parent. The main thing in my life is music. I’ve been obsessed with it for a damn long time now, and it just gets more intense the older I get. When I’m not drawing, I play guitar, write music reviews, download old, rare albums and upload my writing to music sites like Rate Your Music. Here’s the link should you wanna check out my page. My activity in it is intense enough that Eve can identify different strains of heavy metal, just from her own listening experience. She doesn’t particularly like it, but she knows what it is, and that’s a start. I’m also interested in religion and history, especially when they include the more morbid periods in history. Where there’s torture, heresy, disease and blasphemy, you’ll find me as well. At least figuratively speaking. So there you go, my first entry! Any thoughts, comments or rotten tomatoes are welcome and encouraged, so let ‘em fly! Peace, Mike

Several reasons to be happy. 1. I just got cast in Ragtime again. I am very in love with this show and once again I get to sing the funeral solo in it. First time I have gotten to sing a solo in a little while. Very very fun. 2. My novel is getting closer and closer to being done. 3. With my paychecks, I may have enough money to pay for half of school this year (always look on the bright side of life lol), though I still am going to try selling stuff to make up the difference. 4. The Who are going to be playing in L.A. for Vh1 Rock Honors… and if all goes well, I might be able to see them. and 5. Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood are supposed to be * fingers crossed * at a Sci-fi convention in Kentucky this July… a week after The Who concert! I am a HUGE fan of 2001: A Space Odyssey (and Keir Dullea but we won’t go into that right now) and of The Who… and for both to be happening in the same month… EEEEE! They are also the only reasons I would randomly travel, even if I didn’t have the money (I went to London to see The Who and we’re still paying for it). I’m thinking of making a shirt with one or all of my 2001 cartoons (there are a few more on their way to being done… okay, thought of lol) to wear to the Sci-fi convention… but if not, I’ll do my usual and wear a Who shirt. Like I do every day! But now to get back to my novel… and tonight’s comic. KM
