  • How the Irish bring beer home from the store.

  • The Ex-husbands
    by nancyames

“But I guess I must have tried too hard because I spoiled them rotten and…”

This little item is an ironic twist on romantic regret. All the ex-husbands are stereotypical.

  • snow covered house

  • I spent two weeks in the suburb Canto Grande, just outside of Lima, Peru in 2004. Canto Grande is one of the most poverty-stricken areas around Lima and home to a growing population of over 2 million people. We spent the two weeks working with physically and mentally children at a “first of its kind” school. Children and adults with disabilities are often discarded by the community; there is not enough money to feed the mouths of the ones who need special attention. This school offers a place for those with disabilities to learn trade skills such as greeting card-making, hair-cutting, cleaning and maintenance, so they can gradually become working members of the community. For the severely disabled, there is a traveling service of caretakers who visit their homes throughout Canto Grande, relieving the parents or guardians of these children/adults of their some of their daily tasks. The families of Canto Grande exist on almost nothing yet were willing to share hearts and dreams with a perfect stranger, something that the Western World protects like gold from almost everyone. The faces of these people have stayed with me and continue to remind me of what is most important in this life and what can be done without. The images from this collection will be available for purchase in November and all proceeds will return to the Canto Grande community by way of Stonehill College’s H.O.P.E. II Peru program.

  • Canon XSi. ISO 100 (TV) 1/60 (Av) F5.6. Built in flash on. Post editing done. Came across this water canal walking through the side streets and pathways that are layed to travel on downtown San Juan Cap. I liked the feel of this cart that was stuck in the middle of the canal. Has a sort of abandonment feel gong for it, within its ambience.
