Bernard St,Leith,Edinburgh…......Carriers Quarters Bar Leith where I used to Assist in Managing…..One of the Oldest Unaltered Public Bar’s in Leith…...Fuji finepix 4700…..Colour change…. / This very small fronted pub dates back to 1785. The front room is so small that the bar takes up most of the room! To one side of the bar is a tiny nook where, it is reputed,’ladies of the night’ would sit and await customers”The Tulip Room”. / The bar itself is well stocked with a good choice of ales, whiskies and wines. Homemade food is cooked in a tiny kitchen at lunchtimes and there is a self serve breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays for £4.50. There is a lovely stone walled back room with booths and tables. Live music is held in this back room once a week. The pub has a very friendly atmosphere and attracts all types of clientele…... /

The Bar you see on the right (Carriers Quarters) is one of the oldest unaltered Bars in Leith,I had the pleasure of working there for a wee whiley….........It’’s a small bar but with a room at the back they named The Carriers Cove ,still in its original state, of stone walls and roaring coal fire,it was so cosy in the winter. It lies within the heart of Leith and just down the road following the light is the Shore with four Bridges and quite a few other Bars and Restaurants, then heading out along the same road it will take you along the coast line towards the Forth Rail Bridge and Forth Road Bridge….......Leith Links is not far from the Bar and not far from where I stay, and is said to have been the place where the first game of Golf was played…....I feel quite Lucky sometimes when I look around me and where I live,Edinburgh is a spectacular City,to look out your window and be looking at a Volcano is amazing but then add a Castle on top of the Volcano ,the Image becomes Magical…................................ /

Yup, that’s right. Some people carry their dogs to the store. (Some bring them INSIDE in their pockets!) Some people bring their cat that way. I used to with a wonderfully sweet cat named “Cat” who loved to go places with me and I didn’t have a car. I took her to parks and she climbed new trees, saw birds that could eat her instead of the other way around, and…. Oops. See I lose it on my own blurbs too. Back to the bike. The two ducks are in that carrier and just hanging out while eco-conscious mom shopped at Trader Joe’s. They obviously didn’t bark like dogs in cars would have; they didn’t quack either. They didn’t fuss around and act unruly like kids (who need to be in carriers for us who don’t have them to be free of them in store. But I digress – again). And they don’t run from end to end of the carrier and knock the bike over like Cat tried to do many times so she could see EVERYTHING, ALL THE TIME. These guys just sat there and watched as people walked by not noticing them. When mom returned she had fresh lettuce and opened the door, which is when I took the other shot. Mom said they don’t even try to fly out and are as much like any other pet as possible – other than they have web feet, waddle, and ask for breakfast with funny sounding voices. But they love to travel and mom does it without fossil fuels and with saddle bags chocked full of what had to be a week’s groceries. Maybe it’s not all that unusual in other parts of the country (or world) to have a pet duck or two in a dog carrier on a bike at the grocery store. Then again, maybe this woman was unique, a single older woman who can’t bear to part with her pets for even a short trip to the grocery store. Or maybe I’m just odd and find this odd because I like to share my oddness with other odd things so I don’t seem as odd. (sigh)

This is the fifth vessel to bear the proud name. Ark Royal was built by Swan Hunters Ship Builders’ yard at Wallsend in December 1978 and launched by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. HMS Ark Royal was accepted into service on 1 July 1985. / HMS Ark Royal is larger than her 2 sisters, Invincible and Illustrious, at 210 metres (683 feet) long. She has a maximum beam of 36 metres (117 feet) and a displacement of 20,000 tonnes. / 4 Olympus gas turbine engines (like Concorde’s) propel the ship, which give a maximum speed in excess of 30 knots. A steeper ski jump than in the other ships of this class is fitted at the forward end of the flight deck. / The ship’s motto is ‘Zeal Does Not Rest’. / The Royal Navy’s flagship HMS Ark Royal has arrived in Liverpool for the first time in her 23-year-history. / The 20,000-tonne military aircraft carrier has berthed at the city’s new Cruise Liner Terminal. / The Ark Royal, which has a crew of more than 600, will be in the city for four days. / “HMS Ark Royal is ready in all respects to deploy anywhere in the world to support a wide range of missions. /

Taken 5th of July 2007 at Garden Island Dockyard,Wooloomooloo,Sydney. This impressive vessel pulled into Sydney with a great Hoo Haaa….people were everywhere. My usual 20 minute drive home from work turned into nearly and hour and a half…and that was just to get out of the Cark park! / I found out later that those workmates of mine that waited for the traffic to ease, were privvy to a guided tour of the Ship. I was disapponted but that’s how the cookie crumbles.(They didn’t allow cameras onto the ship anyway….). It was the same Chaos when the QE2 came to Garden Island….now…where are those photos…..

taken aboard the U.S.S. Middway in San Diego, Ca. / “Midway Magic” is a historical fact. It was a term known throughout the Navy as the USS Midway steamed through a 47-year career of service to country. Imagine a carrier that was commissioned in 1945 and served as a flagship in Desert Storm in 1991. No other carrier served as long as the USS Midway. /
