Here’s a little more about this work from the artist: “This is a Study Painting I created, it’s inspired by the heroes of an authentic tragedy which was also dramatized by Chikamatsu in 1722. Hanbei was a greengrocer from Osaka who married Ochiyo, a village beauty. There love was so strong their story became a village legend.
