Acrylic and pastel on illustration paper. (1995) This is truly the first tree I ever painted, the need to paint and create was something brewing so strongly inside I had to do something about it. Yet my resources were very limited, I grabbed the only paint I had any access to, a can of my father’s black spray paint, I sprayed it into the lid of the can and used the only paintbrush I owned a cheep nylon brush from a water color kit and created. I then finished my work with the only two pastels I owned brown and black. / Necessity is the mother of invention, or maybe it’s that there is more than one way to skin a cat. (Sorry cat lovers) At any rate I grew up in a home with very few luxuries but I did have a passion to create, always, I had to feed the creativity. So this is a very special piece to me and I hope to you as well. This work is about the future that is inside of you. I was originally inspired to create this piece while I was listening to a speaker talk about how God sees us. That He sees us in our completed form; that there is a future YOU inside you right now. He sees all that you are capable of and placed that inside of you when He created you. / In my work I am conveying a majestic, tall oak tree, exists complete within a tiny acorn somewhere in the future. It’s the knowledge of the future that is the key to unlocking it and releasing it. Featured in Western United States Artists and Photographers / (Thanks Karön Melillo d’Vega The original is 42×32 in acrylic and mixed media (including metallic and porcelain paint) on canvas; sealed with wax. / In this piece my attempt was to create riveting color combinations and captivating eye movement. I used a variety of mediums to achieve a wet and dry look. Select portions of the canvas appear as wet paint and dramatically contrast the airy and light spaces, which does seam to make the “color float.” This was a commissioned project designed as a focal point to tie all of my client’s glass artwork collection together perfectly. My inspiration for this piece is Jazz, pure soulful and uninhibited jazz. Easy and yet complex were the sounds that drifted from Louie’s trumpet. From his trumpet playing to his rich vocals, Louie’s music is a great inspiration to me. I try to capture his depth of character and defined talent through my portrait. I created countless layers of meticulous details conveying everything from the veins in his hands to his handkerchief and the gleam in his eyes that says, he loves what he does. My goal was to truly capture Louie’s soul. ...I can hear his voice singing the song “What a Wonderful Life”...every time I look at this image, which is what inspired me to draw this piece. Enjoy! In my portrait of Vincent, in every wrinkle I reproduced, in every mole I fastidiously drew and in every single hair I portrayed I see his achievements. There are many fine details in this portrait. My work is featured in the group Painters In Modern Times / (Thanks Everyone at PIMT!) Oil on Glass This is the print version of my painting This is the newest addition to my series “Journey Through Africa”, the other three included a Red Bishop bird, an African tree in a field and a giraffe in it’s habitat. This piece is of one of my favorite creatures, the blue poison dart frog. They are found in Africa and South America and were not discovered till around 1960’s. It’s stunning natural colors really attracted me to it in creating this work. This piece like the other two in the series was also painted on an antique mirror. I take something old and forgotten and create something new, yet try to keep the aged or classic feel throughout the piece. Usually just looking at a prospective mirror I see what I will paint next in it. Excerpt from Grimm Brother’s, Cinderella Story “Now that no one else was at home, Cinderella went to her mother’s grave beneath the hazel tree, and cried out: Shake and quiver, little tree, / Throw gold and silver down to me. / Then the bird threw a gold and silver dress down to her, and slippers embroidered with silk and silver. She quickly put on the dress and went to the festival….read more This is my artistic depiction of the Grimm Brother’s Cinderella. I used artistic license to add the fairies to the tree, the flowers and her dress. I even created a special fairy showering Cinderella with magic creating her dress, her crown, the carriage and horses.
