This image came about in an awesome way for me. Two weeks earlier, the model, Margrit, was telling me a bit about her life. She’s lived and travelled in many countries and taken lots of opportunities. She has also achieved great success with her photography. Several weeks later, I had an unusual chance to photograph her in an old train – the perfect location to reflect her life’s journey. / In Australia, Margrit has achieved her LAPS and AAPS, and is the only West Australian women to received international photographic honours AFIAP. She’s a perfectionist and it shines through in her work. The farmer who breeds and shows these magnificent Shire horses had stopped near his Dartmoor farm at Ponsworthy to give the horses a bit of a breather so I was pleased to get the opportunity of a few close-up shots of them. Undoubtedly a proud team, not only the horses but also the farmer and his wife who lavish so much care and attention in keeping them up to top show standard. Shire horses are reputedly the largest breed of heavy horse in the world, both of these had been sired by King, who at the time was in the Guinness book of Records as being the largest heavy horse anywhere at almost 20 hands, that is almost 80 inches high to it’s shoulder. My work was the WINNER of the Faerie World groups competition , “The Brothers Grimm”. Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote for me and those that support my work! Excerpt from Grimm Brother’s, Cinderella Story “Now that no one else was at home, Cinderella went to her mother’s grave beneath the hazel tree, and cried out: Shake and quiver, little tree, / Throw gold and silver down to me. / Then the bird threw a gold and silver dress down to her, and slippers embroidered with silk and silver. She quickly put on the dress and went to the festival….read more This is my artistic depiction of the Grimm Brother’s Cinderella. I used artistic license to add the fairies to the tree, the flowers and her dress. I even created a special fairy showering Cinderella with magic creating her dress, her crown, the carriage and horses. So there you are, deep under the waves, enjoying a couple of mimosas with your Sunday brunch, and along comes a naked lady driving a giant conch shell drawn by a seahorse. Well, it’s enough to put you off your cocktails for a time, isn’t it? Fear not (and drink up!), it’s just Marcella and her fabulous Conch Carriage out for a drive! And though she tends to dress down on Sundays, you’ll never catch Marcella without her nautilus hat. It’s been rumored that if you offer to buy her a drink, she’ll race a school of groupers for your amusement – quite inexpensive as entertainment goes. Perfect as a companion piece to Emma the Nautilus-naut. This original artwork and story are copyright Ramona Szczerba 2009.
