This shot is one to which I was truly lucky to witness last summer. As I was walking a trail, I happened upon a colony of Carpenter Ants whereas the winged ones were emerging out of their nest, and taking to the air. There were literally thousands of them, and although I had the wrong type lens on my camera, I still tried to capture the event as it happened. Not an award winning photo, but one nonetheless to which I hope you like and appreciate the moment. – Dennis

Carmangay Catholic Church on a crisp winter Sunday, note the modest rose window and lancet windows that make this small town cathedral look humbly gothic. Many art historians refer to the gothic aspirations of humble timber churches as the ‘carpenter gothic’ style…I would have loved to see the inside of this one, I imagine a high ceiling with hammer beam supports and bright shafts of light bursting in onto the floor. I also loved the tree shadows and the blue, blue sky. Photographed with my Canon Rebel XT and 10-20 Sigma Wide Angle, ISO 200 f/12.
