This was a small Pond outside of an African Preserve in Florida. These are Koi. / Some Info / The word “koi” comes from the Japanese, simply meaning “carp.” It includes both the dull grey fish and the brightly colored varieties. A homophone of koi means “love, affection” and koi are therefore symbols of love and friendship in Japan: a good example is the short story Koi-san by Mukoda Kuniko.

Original artwork now SOLD. / Here’s the quote that inspired the work; / A little fish, overhearing a fisherman remark that water is / essential to life, became panicky and swam desperately in / search of water, until it reached the ocean and asked a wise / old fish where it could find water. The old timer laughed and / said, “Why, you’ve never been out of water. You’ve had / water all the time, but you didn’t’t know it.” So it is with faith; / you have it, it is with you. You simply have to realize and / use it and it will grow. / ~unknown * / This work is still available as an original oil painting on my Originals web site. / www.badkittyartstudio.com *But Not For Long!

Carpe Diem is a phrase from a Latin poem by Horace. It is popularly translated as “seize the day”, although a more literal translation of carpe would be “harvest” (“harvest the day”), as in the harvesting of fruit. “dum loquimur, fugerit invida aetas: carpe diem quam minimum credula postero.” / “While we speak, time is envious and is running away from us. Seize the day, trusting little in the future.”
