  • End of the ride for one lightbulb.

  • I love carousels just as much now as the first time I saw one. I don’t know why but have always found something magical about them.

  • This is a photo of an old merry-go-round which I found on a “playground for adults” on my travels in Europe – yes, there exists stuff like that and not in a kinky way. But because it was already close to winter it was not in use and tied up.

  • This delightful old carousel is located in the Southbank precinct of Melbourne (Australia) & is in great condition for it’s age. Built in Germany in 1878, it was imported to Aust in 1927 & the accompanying fairground organ arrived in 1928. This carousel toured the southern Aust states, Tasmania & NZ – first transported by horsedrawn wagons, then in 1932 the company changed to trucks for transport. At the end of each show, it was taken apart for removal to the next show, where it was rebuilt again. In 1950 the carousel was purchased by the Short Family & they are still the owners. As of this year, it has stopped touring the country & is looking to become a permanent fixture in it’s current location. If they get permission to stay, they will also be eligible for government funding to help restore this wonderful carousel to it’s original beauty (although it is in extremely good condition, it is in need of continued maintenence & restoration). Yes, I am a carousel junkie!!! You will be seeing more Melbourne carousels in the near future :-D

  • This sweet horse is from another carousel along the Yarra River in Melbourne (Australia), but the history of this carousel was unavailable. It appears to be in fairly good restored condition, which was nice to see. Featured Carousel Enchantment (February 2009)

  • An unknown girl rides the Flying Horse Carousel, Watch Hill, RI There was a time when people of all ages enjoyed the simple pleasure of a Carousel ride. Now it seems only the young can still find the magic in that slice of life. The adults stand outside watching (and sometimes worrying) as children become lost in the wonder of it all. Of course no ride would be complete without grasping a brass ring or two. Taken with a Canon EOS 350D camera with a Sigma AF 18-200mm DC OS Zoom lens on 07/21/08. iPhoto sepia added.
