There are not many fences left on the beach at Hunting Island State Park, South Carolina, so I’m glad I was able to capture this one before the erosion of the waves pulled them away. This is an approximately 1,400 year old Live Oak tree in coastal South Carolina. It has a trunk circumference of over 24 and a half feet and its boughs cover approximately 1 acre of land. It is reportedly the oldest living thing on the eastern side of the Mississippi River in North America.
