Coral Sands and Turquoise waters along Warwick Long Bay, Bermuda
The Sea Venture was one of the first ships to arrive in Bermuda. It was thrown accidentally off course by a hurricane and landed on the reefs intact. Its original course was with a fleet from England headed towards / Jamestown, Virginia to aid in the colonization. From being shipwrecked, the crew and passengers of the Sea Venture settled in Bermuda and benefitted from its tropical paradise and set up a small colony. This painting is a Mixed Media piece, combining original digital photography taken in Bermuda by me SBC, with my painting, and drawings. It is intended to capture the natural and surreal beauty of Bermuda through my eyes. This art won an Honorable Mention Award in the Rowayton Art Show in 2006 and First Place in the Darien Art Show in 2007. It is presently being considered for exhibition at the Royal Navy Dockyard Museum in Bermuda. Thank you for your interest, comments and purchases!

Watercolour on Arches Hot Pressed Paper.. Matsuo Kinsaku was a Japanese poet who changed his name to ‘Basho’, after he was presented with a wide leafed banana tree (or Basho tree) by one of his disciples. Although the tree is rare in Japan and the climate too cold for it to bear fruit, Basho liked it because of its large, soft leaves. The Basho tree appeared frequently in his work. Another grand Caribbean sunrise in progress, off the coast of Ambergris Caye in Belize, Central America. I shot a series of pictures capturing the sunrise as it developed. This is the first picture I shot…. Shot with Nikon D-3 with 17-35mm Nikkor set at 17mm.
God’s talent with a paint brush always produces spectacular works of art down in the Caribbean. This is the sixth picture of eight that I shot during a sunrise on Ambergris Caye, Belize, in Central America. As the sun rose higher the clouds engulfed the sun, stunting the colored display from growing any more. Nikon D-3 w Nikkor 17-35mm set at 17mm.
What could be more romantic than beginning a new day together with a stroll on the beach?! / Taken just after sunrise, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, February 2009 Nikon D40, NIkkor VR lens 55-200mm Top ten placement in the silhouettes challenge for All Water In Motion group, March 2009.
“The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.” / ~Flora Whittemore Nikon D40, Nikkor VR 55-200mm lens As I made my way to the beach early one morning, I found this at the end of a passage on the third floor of the resort. The sun had just made an appearance and I was in awe of the beautiful light and shadows created by the sunlight through the palm leaves and arched open air window. / Taken in February 2009 at the Majestic Colonial Beach Resort, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. On the second day we were in Punta Cana, a storm rolled in and eventually turned the horizon black. This was taken about an hour before but the warning of wind, rain and darkness were already present in the early afternoon. A new addition to the Tropical and Food Collections, this painting is a tribute to the juiciness of the fruit…unlike my previous renditions of the Papaya, this is painted with much fewer details and has a relaxed feel to it, which is more in tune with the tropics...it is also part of the Sepia and Gold colour collection See the entire Tropical Collection..HERE Watercolour with Pen and Ink on DrawMaster Paper “They grew like giants in our backyard / in Cuba, thin, ravenously thirsty plants / that bore fruit every spring, first as small / as pears, then the fruit swelled to the size / of footballs, their communal weight / a clumped burden on the whole plant— / only my father knew for sure when to cut / them down, bring them inside the house, / in the kitchen he sliced them, these toothy / smiles, teeth like black goblets, a volcano’s / ashy tear on leaves, sweet, delicious, these / fruta bombas, as my father called them. / For years while we lived in Los Angeles, / he couldn’t grow them in such a dry climate, / but when he moved to Hialeah, Florida, / he harvested them once again, brought / them upstairs under his arms, a smile”..excerpt..V.
