  • “Nature’s Loving Caress” Watercolor, photograph, and digital art Petals like velvet / soothe my raw / emotions that spew forth. / peony listens / silently, without / judgment / and I melt. / into her arms. When I was going through a rather stressful time in my life, I would often seek refuge in nature. Gardens particularly had a calming influence on me and my worries and fears would slowly leave me as I soaked up the healing vibrations surrounding me. I could escape into my mother-in-law’s garden with my camera attached to me like a body part and drown in nature’s loving caress. Paradoxically, it was often my mother-in-law who caused me the greatest stress at times. I’d have to say that creative outlets and nature were my saviors, and still are. I am grateful to them both. When the original photograph (the peony) stands alone by itself, it has a heavenly feel about it. I needed to add the woman to show how she is being affected by seeing the flower. I enjoy putting lots of flowing lines into my pieces to depict the energy that flows from us into the universe and back again to our being. The woman is in a meditative state of contemplation, letting the peace and quietude resonate through her and touch her to her core. Yet, she has a wildness about her that depicts how freeing she felt as her heart was let loose. The poem is added here to further express how I feel. I am thankful for creative expression, for to verbalize my inner self is sometimes difficult.
