The Sea Venture was one of the first ships to arrive in Bermuda. It was thrown accidentally off course by a hurricane and landed on the reefs intact. Its original course was with a fleet from England headed towards / Jamestown, Virginia to aid in the colonization. From being shipwrecked, the crew and passengers of the Sea Venture settled in Bermuda and benefitted from its tropical paradise and set up a small colony. This painting is a Mixed Media piece, combining original digital photography taken in Bermuda by SBC, painting, and drawing. It is intended to capture the natural and surreal beauty of Bermuda. It won an Honorable Mention Award in the Rowayton Art Show in 2006 and First Place in the Darien Art Show in 2007.

Polar Bear mum and cubs relax on an ice floe. / / The sea ice is shrinking at an alarming rate, which has a huge impact for the bears as this is their main hunting ground. More and more bears are being found to have drowned while trying to find the ice, even though they can swim up to sixty miles or so! / / I hope the ice does not completely vanish and that they always have somewhere to hunt! / / (Spitsbergen – Scandinavian Arctic) / / >< / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

Drought Breaker As the farmer knelt down on the salty sand, / He needed rain to save his land. / The crops were wilting, the cattle all dead, / He looked around, not a word was said. The ground was dry, where is the rain? / What could stop this worthless pain? / The farmer cursed in sheer despair, / He did not have a drop to spare. A thundercloud covers the western sky, / A bolt of lightning explodes near by. / The farmer looks up and begins to pray, / Hoping that the rain will come his way. Then drip-by-drip it starts to fall, / The crystal water like a clear glass wall. / The trees and flowers all in bloom, / Then once again, gone is the gloom. The water fills the old parched creek, / The rivers bulge as the waters peak. / The mud squelches through the farmer’s dry old hands, / As he thanks the Lord for saving his land. / / By Meg Hayes Year Seven / St Mary’s Primary School / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / Silverton, New South Wales

Captured along the Mount Evans Wilderness in Colorado, this is one of those waterfalls that kind of sneaks up on ya outta the blue, and if you blink, you actually miss it. I really don’t much in the way of long exposure shots, but after being happy with how this one came out, I am going to start doing them more. Hope ya all like it! Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / />Framed Print / / Mounted Print Pilgrimage / mixed media production on paper, ink, pastel, charcoal and acrylic Pilgrimage is about our passage through life, the boat represents the vehicle by which she travels, the wise animal represents the voice of wisdom, the bare tree represents a brand new slate on which to write each day, the crown speaks of how special each individual is. Pearls represent the tears of the moon and remind us that life may not be easy and we all struggle. The lotus represents strength through love. The daisies are for simplicity. The bindi is for spiritual insight. The red sky at night is a sailor’s delight…for a red sky at night indicates smooth seas on the morrow! As a fisherman’s daughter, I have witnessed the strange phenomena of a red sky numerous times….always turns out to be calm on the water next day – a great indicator.. red skies are a great indicator of smooth sailing ahead / Customers are welcome to email enquiries to karintaylor@exemail.com.au

In Cappadocia, a local vendor covered this old branch with evil eye beads. His shop sits on a hill above a village carved into the volcanic tuff of the region. The evil eye beads I remember from my time in Turkey had yellow in them, unlike most of the ones we saw during our journey. They became talismans to conquer what ancient civilizations feared, such as nighttime dark, storms, earthquakes and eclipses. The blue symbolizes the sky, the white is the aura of the moon, the yellow is the sun disc, and the black spot in the middle is that little bit of evil eating away at the sky or nibbling away at the sun. In Turkey, the belief is that evil eye beads ward off the effects of the “evil eye” and bounce back any curses or ill will. You will see an evil eye bead pinned to the clothing of an infant, hanging from the rear view mirror of a vehicle, decorating the harness of a horse, painted on the back of a big truck/lorry, placed over a doorway…
