Drought Breaker As the farmer knelt down on the salty sand, / He needed rain to save his land. / The crops were wilting, the cattle all dead, / He looked around, not a word was said. The ground was dry, where is the rain? / What could stop this worthless pain? / The farmer cursed in sheer despair, / He did not have a drop to spare. A thundercloud covers the western sky, / A bolt of lightning explodes near by. / The farmer looks up and begins to pray, / Hoping that the rain will come his way. Then drip-by-drip it starts to fall, / The crystal water like a clear glass wall. / The trees and flowers all in bloom, / Then once again, gone is the gloom. The water fills the old parched creek, / The rivers bulge as the waters peak. / The mud squelches through the farmer’s dry old hands, / As he thanks the Lord for saving his land. / / By Meg Hayes Year Seven / St Mary’s Primary School / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / Silverton, New South Wales

Other Christmas Cards and Art by Karin / Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / / Keds Children’s Shoes @ my Zazzle Store / / Baby & Kids TShirts in this design available at my Zazzle store / / / / Watch Over Me Angel / is a new design from my brown paper creations! We all need and hope for an angel to be watching over us, and this angel is especially for Christmas and the little one’s nursery. This one is so dear to my heart, and also especially designed for Christmas and the Calendars R Us Group Challenge for the next Christmas Calendar. I have been thinking about doing an angel for a long time, and finally this gave me the impetus to get moving on it. The brown paper is from a large roll of kraft, slathered with white gesso (acrylic paint) and handdrawn in pencil, then black felt pen…then coloured with colour pencil, chalk pastel, charcoal, and blended well….. later on, the design has been cut out in photoshop and a few extras applied to finish off…. A tshirt is available in this design also, and a children’s tee will soon be available through zazzle.

Acrylic on canvas. God gave this to me this afternoon. Sometimes the temptations of this world can be overwhelming. Hold on to the Truth and trust in the promises of God. Be blessed! /

This little bough of purple flowers seemed to go nicely with an old Irish Blessing, a favorite prayer of mine for a long time now.

/ “At Times” is part of the Abstract Collection and is inpired by the poem of the same name....how many times when we reach a crossroad in our lives, we become afraid…suddenly all that we were trying to escape seem too good to lose, and the road ahead seems fraught with difficulties…but we’ll never know till we take that first step....for D… Watercolour on Arches Paper… At times the mountains seem insurmountable now / As I gaze at them from the safety of a warm, flowering meadow. / There is snow upon the peaks and chill winds / gust angrily above me. / Yet, as beautiful as the meadow is, I have been here too long. / And the song of birds have grown dull, / The flowers seem artificial, and the frogs too content. / I want to fly myself above the peaks, sing my own songs, / And climb till every vestige of every dream is silent. / Why am I afraid to travel where destiny draws me? / Why do I hesitate when a familiar echo deep in the caverns of my heart calls me? / This is no time to reminisce, to watch the circling crows and drifting clouds. / It is time to move lest winter harden my limbs and freeze my fantasies, / It is time to move boldly and bravely and remember / That the purest air is waiting in the heights / And a single step is enough to be on my way...J. I posted this image earlier and then got a request from one of my former students to create another version of the same picture, this one as a Cajun Christmas card. In her email to me, she wrote, “Yesterday, I found out I relapsed… A tumor that was dormant for two years awoke from its slumber… so back to the battle… and you know this Cajun is going to fight like a true Cajun!” I’m dedicating this card to Robyn and to her fighting spirit. I hope that everyone who views this card and reads this entry will pray for her to win this next round of her battle with cancer. Robyn is a gifted athlete who abounds with humor and the Cajun joie de vivre, joy of life! Please spread the word; united prayer is powerful. And a very Merry Cajun Christmas to you and yours!

My dog River posing for a portrait in the snow. She has ALWAYS liked her picture being taken since she barely opened her eyes at two weeks of age. Her litter mates ran around when the camera aimed at them but she stood in attention every time a photo opportunity showed up! :) I’m sure she’d be glad that I donate the proceed of the sale of her photos to Nature Canada as she loves woods and her deer friends as much as I do! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada.

This is a little bridge in my piece of the woods after the first snow. All is calm and quiet. Even the deer seemed to be walking gingerly – not wanting to disturbed the “peace”. Some may even say that the picture portrays a feeling of “eerie-ness” but for me, it’s just the quietness and serenity. This is why I’d like to do my part to keep nature this way! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada

This is a little statue of an angel that was given to me after I had an Ectopic Pregnancy. It was my first pregnancy so very disappointing and resulted in loosing one of my fallopian tubes. This Angel was given to me by the support group I had gone to symbolising the baby i had lost. I also miscarried after having my first child. I’m glad to say that i now have 3 beautiful girls. To everybody who has suffered an Ectopic Pregnancy or a Miscarriage, that there is hope. (Ectopic Pregnancy is a common, life-threatening condition affecting 1 in 100 pregnancies. It occurs when the fertilised egg implants outside the cavity of the womb. Most ectopic pregnancies develop in the Fallopian tube, the tube which connects the ovary to the womb. As the pregnancy grows it causes pain and bleeding. If it is not treated quickly enough it can rupture the tube and cause abdominal bleeding, which can lead to maternal collapse and death.)

This male painted bunting frequented my birdbath this past summer. I thought this Irish blessing would be a good companion piece with this image of a rainbow bird.

I can’t imagine not knowing, never having learned, or going through life without the Lord’s Prayer. It’s how Jesus taught us to pray….and I wonder just how many children in today’s society don’t know it. People are so confused these days with the distortion of religion and faith…which are two completely different thing. Children have a natural ability to relate honestly and directly with their Creator and as Jesus said in Matthew 18:3 “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Children’s hearts are so pure and untainted. That’s what God wants from us. The great Picasso said it as it relates to art, so it relates to just about everything in life: “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up” – Pablo Picasso

As those who know my work are all aware: I don’t usually “play with” Photoshop effects (of course except frames as I love framing). This time I can’t resist the concept so I used “vivid light” as an effect and add an extra gradient layer on top of the photo. I can only hope it worked.
