  • Sacred Heart mixed medium painting with Sanskrit prayer shard from a Tibetan prayer flag.

  • This little bough of purple flowers seemed to go nicely with an old Irish Blessing, a favorite prayer of mine for a long time now.

  • I can’t imagine not knowing, never having learned, or going through life without the Lord’s Prayer. It’s how Jesus taught us to pray….and I wonder just how many children in today’s society don’t know it. People are so confused these days with the distortion of religion and faith…which are two completely different thing. Children have a natural ability to relate honestly and directly with their Creator and as Jesus said in Matthew 18:3 “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Children’s hearts are so pure and untainted. That’s what God wants from us. The great Picasso said it as it relates to art, so it relates to just about everything in life: “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up” – Pablo Picasso

  • Digital painting.

  • I posted this image earlier and then got a request from one of my former students to create another version of the same picture, this one as a Cajun Christmas card. In her email to me, she wrote, “Yesterday, I found out I relapsed… A tumor that was dormant for two years awoke from its slumber… so back to the battle… and you know this Cajun is going to fight like a true Cajun!” I’m dedicating this card to Robyn and to her fighting spirit. I hope that everyone who views this card and reads this entry will pray for her to win this next round of her battle with cancer. Robyn is a gifted athlete who abounds with humor and the Cajun joie de vivre, joy of life! Please spread the word; united prayer is powerful. And a very Merry Cajun Christmas to you and yours!

  • “Praying for Rain” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © “As the farmer knelt down on the salty sand, / He needed rain to save his land. / The crops were wilting, the cattle all dead, / He looked around, not a word was said. / The ground was dry, where is the rain? / What could stop this worthless pain? / The farmer cursed in sheer despair, / He did not have a drop to spare. / A thundercloud covers the western sky, / A bolt of lightning explodes near by. / The farmer looks up and begins to pray, / Hoping that the rain will come his way. / Then drip-by-drip it starts to fall, / The crystal water like a clear glass wall. / The trees and flowers all in bloom, / Then once again, gone is the gloom. / The water fills the old parched creek, / The rivers bulge as the waters peak. / The mud squelches through the farmer’s dry old / hands, / As he thanks the Lord for saving his land.” / ~ Meg Hayes Year Seven / St Mary’s Primary School Praying for Rain was featured in the: Redbubble Homepage – November 08

  • / “At Times” is part of the Abstract Collection and is inpired by the poem of the same name....how many times when we reach a crossroad in our lives, we become afraid…suddenly all that we were trying to escape seem too good to lose, and the road ahead seems fraught with difficulties…but we’ll never know till we take that first step....for D… Watercolour on Arches Paper… At times the mountains seem insurmountable now / As I gaze at them from the safety of a warm, flowering meadow. / There is snow upon the peaks and chill winds / gust angrily above me. / Yet, as beautiful as the meadow is, I have been here too long. / And the song of birds have grown dull, / The flowers seem artificial, and the frogs too content. / I want to fly myself above the peaks, sing my own songs, / And climb till every vestige of every dream is silent. / Why am I afraid to travel where destiny draws me? / Why do I hesitate when a familiar echo deep in the caverns of my heart calls me? / This is no time to reminisce, to watch the circling crows and drifting clouds. / It is time to move lest winter harden my limbs and freeze my fantasies, / It is time to move boldly and bravely and remember / That the purest air is waiting in the heights / And a single step is enough to be on my way...J. Kavanaugh /

  • / The Thaw” is part of the Abstract and the Winter collection….on the surface it appears to be an abstract portrayal of the thaw that appears after the first snows have fallen or after a long winter when the earth warms up in spring, but this is a whole lot more…from the “crouching dark desolation” to the words “reprieve”....is it death, or the sentence of death, that we have escaped? And do we ever escape it... Watercolour on Arches Paper… A little breath / A green shoot thrusting through the snow / Ice-crusted, part-crushed, / But astonishing green / From crouching, dark desolation / Incarcerated / Secret root resistance crept / Radiant defiance / At slightest thaw springs / A forgiveness of melting / One trickling drop of icicle / Rolls down the prisoner’s grey face / Now he will clamor with the dawn chorus / And dare to shout out / Reprieve! / Reprieve!..Louise Rill

  • / “The Bequest” is the title of a painting…it is an oil painting of a simple lock…the painting has been handed down from generation to generation of the same family…no one knows its origin, for those who knew the story are long dead….now they only know that the painting must never be sold…must never go out of the family…it is handed down to each eldest son and must hang in a prominent place in the main room of the house…the family is very wealthy and own many works of art, and visitors are puzzled to see this strange painting by an unknown artist, covered with the crazing of age, hanging among the Monets and Pollocks…much too embarrased to ask, their questions go unanswered, and many stories have been concocted and whispered over the years...Janis On the back of the painting, someone had scribbled the following poem You left me, sweet, two legacies / A legacy of love / A Heavenly Father would content, / Had He the offer of You left me boundaries of pain / Capacious as the sea, / Between eternity and time, / Your consciousness and me. E Dickinson… Acrylic and watercolour on Arches Not Paper

  • / “Still Life With An Awl” is part of my new collection of paintings of everyday things…things like tools, that we take for granted until we need them…one of my favourite places to go is the hardware store…I love the scent of paint and new metal…I sniff the air as I walk in and revel at all the new things I could get to make my life easier…here is a new type of level, I say to myself…here is something for finding the studs faster, so I don’t have to go knocking and listening…here is a new type of tape that doesn’t rip the drywall to pieces after I paint…I’m going to treat myself to a Dremel tool with all the parts this weekend…what excitement!!..I can’t wait... Watercolour on Arches Not Paper… FEATURED IN …MATURE WOMAN…FIRST THINGS AND FEATURED MEMBER… / / The Legacy / Still Life with Old Dandelion Stencil and Terracotta Pots / Still Life with Wellingtons / The Sap Bucket

  • / This is a new addition to the Collection…Everyday Things…the tools we use and taked for granted have an intrinsic beauty…this red handled wrench and clamps with the screwdriver are from my own tool box... For now we see through a mirror in an enigma, but then face to face. / Now I know in part, but then I shall know as also I was fully known. Corinthians 13. FEATURED IN…WORKS ON PAPER / Still Life with an Awl / The Legacy / Still Life with Old Dandelion Stencil and Terracotta Pots / Still Life with Wellingtons / The Sap Bucket

  • / The latest additon to the Everyday Things Collection is “Still Life with Picture Wire” ....this series is very personal to me in that they represent objects and tools, that are part of my life…I remember being told long ago by an art expert, that it is best to paint what you know, and I feel that the things I use, not only contribute to the quality of my life but have an intrisic beauty of their own... Mighty Leaf teabags are so pretty even when used…all that stitching and silky mesh / Astonishingly, I just found out a couple of days ago from Mingtees, about a world famous artist who has painted the very same everyday things that I do…’How wonderful” I thought…most of those pieces were done some time ago and I am very curious to see how he did them…his newest works on exhibit at the Pace Gallery now include the real tools actually hanging from the canvas…it proves to me that we certainly don’t work in a vacuum…there are probably many other artists around the world who feel the same way as I do and paint the same things... Watercolour on Saunders Waterford Hot Pressed Paper / Enigma…A Stii Life / Still Life with an Awl / The Legacy / Still Life with Old Dandelion Stencil and Terracotta Pots / Still Life with Wellingtons / The Sap Bucket

  • We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to make it Khumjung on our way back down ‘the mountain’ as the weather was coming in and we were in ‘sleeping bag’ mode. Luckily, the stop offered more than a sighting of the Yeti skull and street lights!! It was already late in the afternoon and the snow had just begun to fall consistently- this lady had also obviously decided it was time to head back indoors.
