I am a semiserious photographer who began to become serious during a previous life in the world of independent documentary film. This was after growing up in Kabul, Jeddah and Ankara as a diplomat’s daughter. The community of independent documentary film is where it dawned on me that I accepted the responsibility of asking viewers to see through my eyes. I began to shoot documentary stills, live and copy stand work. Then I added a very nice macro lens to my old Olympus OM2 to photograph things people don’t usually see unless they look close. A year ago, I broke down and purchased a basic digital camera, an Olympus SP-500UZ, so I could take it with me on my journey back to Turkey and use the internet to send photos for posting on our web site Ankara High School Connections RedBubble has inspired me to learn to use the macro function on the digital Olympus, and I am trying to see the image as a card. Looking around RedBubble’s Gallery, whose name has been reduced to “art” as Journal was degraded to “blog,” I have found inspiration for some wonderful images of where I live. I saw a photo of an old coffee grinder that reminded me we have one in the Casa. I have an old Yemeni silver dagger and a case like one I’ve seen here on RedBubble. I have found photos that evoke the same feelings as some of mine. RedBubble is something I found by accident during a search for direction in getting Frog in a Rose / digitally printed onto nylon as a garden flag. I signed up on RedBubble because it offers fabulous photos as cards, even ones of my photos! Anita Donohoe / Rancho San Julian / Santa Barbara County, California

SaharaBelle is a new member to RB, but not much of a writer. Because I like her work (both in the kitchen :D and with a camera), I’m showing you some her amazing photography. Thankfully SaharaBelle made a few comments during the upload process – so I’ll divulge these with you. Basically, this post serves as an easy way for our family and friends to quickly see all the cards of her amazing photography. There will be more soon. In fact, some of my collection will moving across. Yes, I took credit for her work … with her permission! But now she is a member, she wants them back. Anyway, here are all the cards of our recent visit to the Wittunga National Park. I encourage people to leave nice comments on her work. Or critique’s. We’re always looking for extra help on how to take a better photograph! You might recognise this photograph! I cropped this one to a square image to make her avatar. I love this photograph … it’s so vibrant and almost blinding! What do you think?! / “This one will make a great Christmas card!”. Her words after this uploaded. / I suggested this shot – because she had the Macro-lens. It turned out a lot better than I ever expected. It helps that SaharaBelle made sure the blue sky was in the background of these shots, thereby allowing a lot more light to come through the ‘field of focus’. / Nice shadows in this one. The yellow stamen look like antenna … don’t they? / Hehe, nature’s feather duster! I suspect it would leave more pollen than it would remove! / I just love how this is the colours of the Australian flag! / This little bee is getting his money’s worth of nectar… / It took a while to think of a suitable title. But this choice works well. / Sometimes the title’s are just so apt. Yet come out of nowhere. / I originally suggested “Toilet Brush”, but apparently my humor was NOT appropriate. / I’m sure you can see why this title was chosen. This little bee probably wasn’t imprisoned at all, but they do look like bars around his face! / This is a flower in the process of blooming. When we return next weekend, I hope to capture these in full bloom! / Hehe, this little guy was filling up like a car at the petrol-pump! I’m sure he saw the camera coming toward him, but just had to get that nectar! / This amazing shot was incredibly lucky. With a dedicated macro lens, she was going to shoot just the flower … but found the little black bug inside. / This amazing little bee was sticking his face straight into the flower, digging all the nectar out. / We think this was an ant, but not real sure! He was swimming around the nectar, presumably doing the anty-paddle (doggy paddle, get it?!). / Here is that bee again. This was the last time we saw this guy before he flew back to the hive… / SaharaBelle tells me this is her favourite shot, and I agree. The detail in those wings is outstanding! / But this is not the end! SaharaBelle and I have plans for more day-trips, even with the SA Central group later this year! SaharaBelle and I hope you all (wink wink at friends and family!) like these cards enough to purchase a few.

It seems like summer just zipped on by. For us here in New England it rained almost all of the month of June and we are finally having a heatwave. The kiddos are getting ready to head back to school and they don’t want to go. I can’t say I blame them, they did not get much of a summer until now. As for me and my son, I had surgery so I was sort of grounded to the couch for a little while, like 3 weeks of a little while and of course that first week was the one we finally had some sunny warm weather. Isn’t that the way it goes??? It’s all good. We did get to spend a few days up at the White Mountains in NH and swim in the Baker River. We had a good time. It was so nice to get away from it all and relax up in the hills. Over the last few weeks I have been honored with several features and a sale. Here they are…again thank you too all of the groups that have featured my work :) “Sunset at Seabrook” was featured in Majestic Massachusetts “City Hall Gardner MA” was featured in Amateur Art Photography “Crystal Dewdrop” was featured in Amateur Art Photography “The Chair” was featured in Amateur Art Photography “Washed Ashore” was featured in Flotsam & Jetsam “Clover Hiding” was featured in Amazing Orton Effect … “St Joseph’s Church Gardner MA” was featured in Christian Churches, Statues “Sailng” was featured in Out of the Blue “Harley Power” was featured in Alphabet Soup You sold a greeting card of “Railroad X-ing ” to vinylcollectors I am so so pleased with the interest in my work and for all of the features. poor man’s macro. one part old zoom lens (35-80mm bought on ebay for $40-ish) / one part teeny phillips head screw driver / one part camera / one part a lot of spare time Take all ingredients and place on a table. Peel off sticky ring on front of lens. Take teeny phillips head screw driver and remove three little screws. Take off front glass & set gently aside. Attach altered lens to DSLR camera & prepare to lose yourself down a rabbit hole or the top of a salt shaker. *don’t know if this works with all zoom lenses. kreddible trout photographic industries and all subsidiaries cannot be held responsible for dumb people doing dumb things with their expensive camera lenses, smart people doing dumb things with their expensive camera lenses or averagely intelligent people losing income due to job loss as a result of spending 14 hours a day on their front lawns with their cameras and an ant that won’t bloody well stay still. kreddible trout photographic industries will however take credit for spreading joy.
