This is a gallery which I hope will provide gifts for children, for their bedrooms, for their birthdays…...I hope that it will bring parents closer to their children by helping them remember to tell their children stories, you know – the old fashioned kind of stories….the ones you just make up on the spot….. How can you sell something before you’ve marketed it? / Anyhow, for those who thought this was going to be an expose on how to market and sell your redbubble art, you might be slightly dismayed. I say slightly because the message is surprisingly simple. This is marketing . I plurked about my recent befriending of a fellow train-catcher that resulted in a discussion that enabled me to promote my photo-hobby. This is sales: I sold a framed image from my RB gallery today. This is Naked Porcupine , medium, black frame, bright white matte. / For the tech-nerds at Redbubble headquarters who are saying ‘Hang on, hang on, our records show that YOU bought this from your own gallery!’: Yes, you are right, I purchased it myself. Let me explain why: I told a handful of friends earlier today that I’d be ordering a heap of cards and shirts this weekend, and that if they wanted anything in particular to tell me the names (and style) ASAP so I could include them. Within 10 minutes, a request for the aforementioned frame was asked of me, plus a request on how it could be paid for quickly and easily without using online facilities. / I agreed to pay for it myself and deliver to its new home … whereupon payment will be made. In closing, this is for those readers who’ve been hanging out for my usual marketing tips that bring in the sales, here they are: 1. Promote your work wherever you are: / ... Including public transport, family events, football stadiums, your local pub’, and online social networking (and in this circumstance, plurk.com) . / 2. When introducing yourself to new friends, tell them you are a photographer/artist/etc. / ... Don’t be embarrassed to tell people what you enjoy. Even if it’s only a hobby now, a little bit of exposure might be all the push you need to make your time and energy into a career. / 3. When asked to see your artwork, have it available. / ... Finally having an Apple Touch is worthwhile for something more than getting email and free wifi ! / 4. Be prepared to buy your own work if that’s what it takes to sell your artwork. / ... I have two boxes of my own cards, plus an online list available for people to choose which photographs they’d like to buy as card from me . / ... I also keep a handful of cards (protected by individual plastic bags to include the white envelope within the card) in my day-bag for letting people see and feel them. Everyone wants to know about the quality of the paper, the gloss of the image and to see them in-detail. Hope this helps you, because it all works very well for me!

  MIGALOOMAGIC is my new concept gallery at Red Bubble…below are the very first offerings! My Definition of Magic / Adjective – Wonderful, amazing or incredible, ie as in ‘a magic moment’ I think it’s very important to define magic, as for some people this is a stumbling block and something that conjures up images of black magic, darkness, and other practices which i don’t subscribe to… for the record I’m a christian who doesn’t head to sunday services each week, although i have spent most of my life doing that, it’s not where I am at this stage of the journey….and I’m not a perfect one by any means, I’m quite an unusual one by christian standards, and many feel i don’t meet the standards, but that’s ok…God and I are like this :D we’re tight, so it doesn’t matter what others think on that score…and I guess it’s unusual for me to use the word ‘magic’ when ‘magic practices’ are forbidden in the bible… but it is the where I am coming from that matters to God…He knows I don’t mean it in that way…so already, i apologise to any who may find it offensive or inconsistent, but I intend to keep the name as to me it only implies magic in this case as “wonderful, amazing or incredible, as in a magic moment”. / migaloo-pink-magic / / migaloo-blue-magic / migaloo-in-antarctica / little-lost-orca / rainbow-orcas / little-lost-orca tshirt / Moo Cow Sunrise / Little Moo I’ve been busy with a new concept…. / I wanted to bring parents something special to help them connect with their children… / I am busy creating a series of digital wall art, especially for children…for their bedrooms.   Suggestion of the day to RB Admin. If any other exhibitors disagree or agree with my idea, please comment here! I’d prefer the default when opening the ‘purchase cart’ to be on the cards (the least expensive item) rather than framed options. This might seem mad, but there are two reasons: 1. We prefer more sales, rather than none at all. Some people may baulk at the prices of these framed images – even though they are fair and reasonable!! So let them see the cards first. (Some people may prefer to purchase 50x$5 cards than purchase a $250 framed image.) / / 2. I had someone say, “Hang on, this says ‘From $3’ – but I don’t see anything under a $100.” They simply didn’t see the choices of frames, canvas, etc. They arrived at the first screen and figured that was all there was.

  It took a while tonight, but I eventually found a few links to the winners of that fantastic photo competition we all entered a few months ago! Whilst I was not a winner in any of the categories (I had submissions in three of them), I’m still winning by being a registered member here. See, I am selling my work. I use my RedBubble gallery as a base to display my work … and I sell a lot of photographs offline! Last week I had 60 prints (at 6inch x 4inch) of my photography on RedBubble printed at TEDS in Rundle Street in Adelaide . No big deal. Took them to work yesterday. Showed a few women. Within an hour, quite a few of those ladies put instant requests in. A couple just wanted more 6×4’s, and one wants a couple at A4 size. Late this afternoon one remarked that I should have brought in MORE cards for Father’s Day! Damn, but I had a good come back line, Next Year!. Actually, I’m planning to get about 100 to 200 printed through RB before the end of November – for Christmas cards. I’ve been informed they should sell VERY fast! So now we are moving a few steps ahead: Tomorrow we (the wife and I) are getting 20 x A4 prints of these photographs, all of which are on display on RB: From SaharaBelle’s Collection / 1. Waiting But what then? , I hear you all cry out! Well, I’m forming a portfolio. / Next year I’d like to do a proper photographic course. I’ve been waiting twenty-something years to afford to do this … which is WAAAY too long. After watching younger people around me jump into fantastic jobs and positions over the last few months, I’ve decided it’s FINALLY time to and be more. All the photographs above will be put into a new A3 folder I purchased some time ago. Then I will take that around with me to show off. You want to buy one? OK, either you buy straight from the folder (though I am not sure about that idea), or I take your details and deliver. The whole concept is still being worked on, so we have some planning to work out. My father is an astute business man, and I have a brother whom is a brilliant salesman … so I hope to get both their time-tested advice on certain issues very shortly. / The folder will also be used to convince Adelaide TAFE that I am a worthy student. I won’t write my sales-pitch to the TAFE here, it’s a little corny … but all very true. More about the next stage of this new adventure in my life will be on display over the next week. And I’ll be writing about how we plan to build a Home-Studio and the New Kitchen over the coming months!
