The bridge reminds me of an emotion of solitude, which is not to be confused with loneliness. The former leads to an internal peace and being one with nature and oneself while the latter was a feeling of being forced to be alone, deprived of freedom and choice. I used to call this photo “Peaceful Bridge” until a young patient of mine (at the time she was nine years old) explored the difference between solitude and loneliness. When the image was presented to him as an illustration, he exclaimed, “Oh, solitude is peace, inner peace!” And the true title of the piece was born. The swallow, bonny birdie, comes sharp twittering o’er the sea, / And gladly is her carol heard for the sunny days to be; / She shares not with us wintry glooms, but yet, no faithless thing, / She hunts the summer o’er the earth with wearied little wing. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / / -—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——- / A family of Australian Woodswallows I found perched high above me on a power line at Bowen.

History is a gallery of pictures in which there are few originals and many copies. / ~ Alexis de Tocqueville / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / In this image I was hoping to capture the essence of the small outback community of Silverton that is so typically Australian. Not only were the Mad Max movies made there and numerous other movies and advertisements, it is a town full of history and wonderful eccentric artists. This is Peter Brown’s gallery perched on top of a barren hillside as you drive into town. His emu caricatures are a delight! / -—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- / Thank you to everyone in Redbubbles Outback Australia group for voting Open for Business in the top ten of their competition.

The doe took a little time off from busy eating for the photo opportunity, although she didn’t want to give up the tasty colorful leaf. By now everyone who has ever seen my work knows that I’m absolutely “addicted” to develop a deep relationship and establish an intimate communication with mule deer (we don’t have a lot of white-tailed deer around here). Everyday I go out there in the early mornings, hoping to have a close encounter! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada

FIRST TIME PUBLISHED / When I looked outside my restaurant in Broome I saw two cowboyheads sitting on the tables outside and I had a strong urge to make some photo’s. I spook to the two men they where from Fitzroy Crossing. They where watching a crowd of Indeginous Aboriginal men and women ‘hanging’ outside in the Plaza. They where waiting for the local liquorshop to open, In Fitzroy is now a ‘ban’ on alcohol, they told me, so Fitzroy Crossing is now a ‘dry’ Community Miss. / Broome, Western Australia. / Today I received an email stating; CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR IMAGE ‘TYPAN’ is one of 55 images from the PEOPLE & PLANET International Photo Competition. to be published in the 2009 People&Planet; Social Justice & Enviroment Diary, which will be published this month in Australia (2009). / We thought that your image was incredible, and it won from a pool of OVER 1000 images from 316 photographers from around the World! / All funds raised by the People&Planet diary go to Australia’s small non profit organisations which are working to promote social-justice and environmental substainability around the world. /

The Australian Sunrise / The Morning Star paled slowly, the Cross hung low to the sea, / And down the shadowy reaches the tide came swirling free, / The lustrous purple blackness of the soft Australian night, / Waned in the grey awakening that heralded the light; / Still in the dying darkness, still in the forest dim, / The pearly dew of the dawning clung to each giant limb, / Till the sun came up from ocean, red with the cold sea mist, / And smote on the limestone ridges, and the shining tree-tops kissed; / Then the fiery Scorpion vanished, the magpie’s note was heard, And the wind in the sheoak wavered and the honeysuckles stirred; / The airy golden vapour rose from the river breast, / The kingfisher came darting out of his crannied nest, / And the bulrushes and reed-beds put off their sallow grey / And burnt with cloudy crimson at the dawning of the day. / ~James Lister Cuthbertson / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——- / Sunrise over Dunk Island in far north Queensland
