This is my horse Jack. He was born at my farm while I was taking care of a neighbor’s mare and the mare rejected him. I stayed up nights keeping him alive with a bottle and my husband assured me I wasn’t going to get “jack shit” for all my efforts. So “JACK” was his name. Well, Jack the horse thinks he is human now (early imprinting and all that) and thinks he lives in our garage instead of our barn, opens gates and doors as easily as a human, and stares into the windows of our house at the most inopportune times. / You really can’t imagine what it is like to step out of the shower in the morning and see this big lug staring in the window at you! Worse yet, try explaining to your friends why your horse comes to the living room picture window and stares in at the t.v. while you are trying to watch a movie. The mail carrier isn’t afraid of my German Shepherd’s. He’s afraid of my horse who will come and stand right next to his door so he can’t even get out to deliver my mail! / He’s worthless as a horse. Everytime I try to ride him he is completely appalled and practically falls over trying to look at me up on his back. I suppose its my own fault. When he was a baby he was so much fun… pulling my clothes off the clothes line… chasing after my kids like a puppy dog… following them in the house after school….. / yes, Jack is a bad horse. But he sure did teach us that some of the best relationships are free of all those old expectations (like fences, and bridles, and the staying out of the neighbors orchard!)

“Set aglow in the afternoon golden light, the mane of this bay friend turned fiery red. Undulating gracefully on his neck, the sparkling colours were a feast to the eyes. The contrasting textures of coat and mane present a pretty pattern, always changing at every step this lovely equine friend makes.” / / / Artist statement / My photographs are not enhanced; they represent the true nature and colours of the subjects as captured by the lens. I never lure my animated subjects to come close to me: spontaneity is the key. / / This is an original uncropped image. / / ============================================================= / All proceeds from the sale of this piece of artwork and the rest of my equine photography in all my galleries will be donated in equal ways to the following equine charities: / / Equus Sanctuary Dedicated to saving the equine family and enriching their lives. / / Shiloh Horse Rescue Dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating abused, neglected, injured, unwanted, and slaughter-bound horses of all types. / / Redwings Horse Sanctuary Care for and protect horses, ponies, donkeys and mules in dire need. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——- Carmen, creator of Art for Conservation / / “Equine Beauty” – New Calendar Series 2008 / / / / © Copyright Carmen Mandel-Cesáreo / / Browse my new calendar series with proceeds aiding equine rescue charities. / /

by Dawne OlsonTremendous thanks to Mariola for purchasing a card of “Face to Face”. / !http://images-1.redbubble….
Tremendous thanks to Mariola for purchasing a card of “Face to Face”. / / My closest friend is leaving today (moving half way across the world) and this was an image she especially liked. I came to work with a heavy heart this morning and when I saw that this particular card had sold it really picked me up. Not only is it an honor to have ones work chosen for purchase (the ultimate compliment!) but for me, on this difficult day, it was a reminder of the great value of closeness, friendship, and bonding that inspired me to photograph this image in the first place. I needed that reminder today in the worst way. / Thank you Mariola! xo
