Calla Lilies (Zantedeschias) make good house plants with attractive brilliant white flowers and heart or arrow-shaped leaves. Zantedeschia is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants in the family Araceae, native to southern Africa from South Africa north to Malawi. The name of the genus was given as a tribute to Italian botanist Giovanni Zantedeschi (1773-1846) by the German botanist Kurt Sprengel (1766 – 1833). Common names include Arum lily for Z. aethiopica, calla, and calla lily for Z. elliottiana and Z. rehmannii although it is neither a true lily (Liliaceae), nor Arum or Calla (related genera in Araceae). It is also often erroneously spelled as “cala lily”. It has often been used in many paintings, and is visible in many of Diego Rivera’s works of art (see The Flower Vendor, amongst others). The Zantedeschia are rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plants growing to 1-2.5 m tall with leaves 15-45 cm long. The inflorescence is a showy white, yellow or pink spathe shaped like a funnel with a yellow, central, finger-like spadix. / / A fauvist Calla Lily Bouquet The original was sold 9 June 2009 to a tourist who called in on my exhibition. / Here we have Jungle Fever….. Troppo Blue has turned himself inside out and duplicated himself to create a little female to share his life with… The flowers on the elephants’ hide can only appear during the warm tropical summer heat and Troppo Blue only has the ability to duplicate a mate during the tropical season too, it’s magic… There are tshirts and wall art in both Troppo Blue and Jungle Fever designs… this is the first time that Troppo Blue and his mate have ever seen humans, so be kind to them red bubblers and say hi, and make them feel very welcome…in the winter their skins turn pale again, and the flower skins disappear….it’s only in the summer that they are like this….and it’s very very rare to see one Elephant Kingdom Calendar (these ellies are now included in my new calendar)

These are my tea glasses. / An original photograph nearly “as is”, I’ve only increased contrast/saturation very decently. / If you wonder about the strong colors: I have used a sheet of holographic paper as a background, and a torch bounced off the paper as the only light source. / Troppo Blue is a little blueish elephant – he’s gone all Troppo in the tropical summer heat….. every summer when it’s warm, the heat brings out the flower patterns Troppo Blue’s skin….in winter the flowers disappear, like magic! Troppo Blue is very special, he is made with love and hand painted by his creator Karin, using a blend of inks, pastels, acrylic, charcoal on specialty Canson paper that is sort of a goldish brown colour. Look closely on the larger view and you can see all the texture created from the paper i used. Very soon, Troppo Blue will turn into another design called Jungle Fever, where Troppo blue has duplicated himself, and created a female to share his life with…this again can only happen during the tropical summer heat…. like magic… There will also appear wall art in Troppo Blue, with a special floral design in the background….. it’s the magic jungle from which Troppo Blue is emerging to say hello to everyone here at red bubble – for you are the very first humans he’s ever laid eyes on! / / A Rainbow of Angels TShirt I drew ‘A Rainbow of Angels’ with a pencil over brown paper which had previously been painted with stripes of white gesso… I coloured it in with chalk pastels, coloured pencils and charcoal, and outlined it using black felt tip pens and charcoal After that we had some fun in Photoshop…and A Rainbow of Angels came to life… The Chinese Chop symbol with my initials was created by and comes courtesy of the lovely Keith Richardson /
