I originally intended this shot to be a picture of my son holding onto these balloons and taking off, floating into up into the sky … a fantasy, sotybook sort of image. However, my daughter immediately grabbed these balloons from him and started running off. So, as it turned out this eded up having a more realistic look than the one I originally intended, but I thought it turned out pretty cute with the desaturated colors throughout, except for the colorful balloons.

I have also used a variety of found objects, including lace and ribbons…and an especially beautiful gold paint for the wings which were underpainted first to created texture. On of my favourite paintings, my heart and soul went into this piece…two sweet little girls in darling dresses hanging out in the garden together….what could be nicer.

Chinese Red Fan Girl wears a pair of geta on her tootsies, a gift from ‘Little Blue’ The kanji symbols in the background on the screen translate into ‘One’s Dearest Wish’

Ok so as the story goes… this was right place right time with a camera and imagination…. / I had just taken Dylan (son, featured) to the park for his afternoon play and was carrying around my Canon 20D (getting old now.. poor baby) and 50mm lens.. When we spotted this tiny little heart on the ground.. 1+1=2.. :D (I think?)

Thoughts become Things is a mixed media production on thick watercolour paper. / The painting emphasises the idea that ‘thoughts become things’....here is a creative little girl geting stuck into making all sorts of things while relaxing in the bath (where she gets inspiration)....Just like me, when the inspiration comes it doesn’t matter where you are or what you’re doing, you just begin the creative process…..be it in the bathtub, shower, sitting on the loo…..that’s artists for you :D newspaper sealed with wax, fabric, thread, stitching, little typewritten texts pasted on, buttons, wool, string, golden thread, buttons, feathers, felt, you name it, it’s in this painting….

It was a fun piece that has been popular, the original has already been sold to a doctor in Queensland, and prints requested overseas. It’s funny, the paintings you don’t think will be popular, are the ones that receive the most interest sometimes. ’’Asian Series’ card by Karin Taylor This is one of my favourite pieces in the oriental series. / Two little friends falling asleep in their little boats whilst fishing for their supper. / I really enjoyed mixing the colours for this painting, I used colour swatches from paint charts to decide on the colour scheme, and just went to work intuitively mixing til I got the right colours…they are grungier than my other pics and I love the effect…hope you like them too :D
