The Cité contains some of the finest remains of medieval fortifications in Europe and is a popular tourist attraction. Set atop a hill on the left bank of the Aude River, the Cité includes ancient ramparts and towers, some parts dating from the 5th century, during the time of the Visigoths, and others from the 11th to the 13th century.

Although Mum and Dad went here, and have loads of shots, this one was my Brother’s shots whom took them here. This is Carcasonne in France, an old Medieval town complete with Castle walls, turrets, but no dragons left I am afraid. Have overlayed another sky shot of mine and treated in Photoshop with Palette Knife, Fractialius and other fine tuning.

  • a pilgrim at Carcassonne _Carcassonne Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Michel de Carcassonne) is a cathedral and designated national monument in Carcassonne, France. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Carcassonne. The building was built in the thirteenth-century as a parish church, dedicated to Saint Michael. Following war damage in the fourteenth century it was subsequently rebuilt as a fortified church. In 1803 St Michael’s was elevated to cathedral status, replacing the pre-Revolutionary cathedral dedicated to Saints Nazarius and Celsus. The old cathedral now serves as the Basilica of St. Nazaire and St. Celse. Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc (January 27, 1814 – September 17, 1879) was a French architect and theorist, famous for his “restorations” of medieval buildings. Born in Paris, he was as central a figure in the Gothic Revival in France as he was in the public discourse on “honesty” in architecture, which eventually transcended all revival styles, to inform the emerging spirit of Modernism._ Nikon D300 / Nikkor 20mm lens F2.8d / ISO 200 0 EV / 1/6th sec @ F2.8
