  • This Austin A70 is a permanent feature amongst the gum-trees on my father-in-law’s top paddock. You can tell how long it’s been sitting there by the branches growing in, around and over its body! Location: Kangaroo Island, South Australia All artwork is copyright© to Stephen Mitchell All Rights Reserved. / You may not use, replicate, manipulate, redistribute, or modify my photography, writing, and artwork without my express consent.

  • Again, another shot from Paso Robles – “Portrait of a Hot Rod Couple” – no that’s not Chris Isaak in the front seat…. however, I think he might have spent just as much time on his hair! The amount of beautifully painted machines around the couple is jaw dropping for me…. I’m defintely coming back here next year!

  • my sister at her wedding (23.6.07)… / To achieve the soft focus on this photo I add a guassian blur to one of the channels (can’t remember which one), changed to sepia and then added a ‘soft light’ blending layer also a little dodging and burning… v. simple!

  • No matter where you leave it…trash is trash. / another self port

  • This guy was pretty cool, sitting there minding his own business, and I just had to get the shot. But as I lifted the camera and looked through the lens he just broke into this mean stare into the lens like he was gonna hurt me. I saw it and quickly pressed the shutter. Later I complimented him on his tattoos and showed him the shot and it was then that his frown turned into a broad grin…phew!

  • From “The White Album” series. Pastel on sanded paper. The model is my artistic daughter, who posed for me in my sister’s double yellow bug. My “baby” really was taking driver’s ed at the time. :) “Baby you can drive my car, yes I’m gonna be a star. Baby you can drive my car, and maybe I’ll love you. Beep beep ‘m beep beep, yeah! “

  • Tell me about your red boots. / These boots are made by Alannah Hill (who is not particularly one of my favourite designers but I fell in love with these boots at first sight!) I think they are just perfect! I love the colour, the brooch and the red ribbons. They are just so me! Unfortunately they are not the easiest heel to walk in so I don’t get to wear them too much, and I like to save them for special occasions so they have a bigger impact on the people who see / them! What’s the story behind you getting them? / Like all of my shoes, they were an impulse buy. I just can’t help but whip out my credit card when I see new shoes! My friend was working at the store where I purchased them at the time so I got them a little cheaper which helped sweeten the deal! So, why exactly do you love shoes so much? / I need one in every colour to go with my outfits, every style for different comfort levels, moods and seasons. Shoes to go with stockings and classic vintage heels that every girl must own! I can’t part with shoes, they have to be broken beyond repair or stolen from me. Model: Amanda Driver / Location: Collingwood / Photography: Jo O’Brien

  • Petrol stop – Cameron, Arizona

  • — Model: Su / Production and Art Direction: Alateia / Location, Austin Healey and BBQ: Larry If only we could all wear driving hats and gloves … oh, hum. I took this on my film SLR (Canon EOS 3000). — Also from this shoot: / click images to view — N.B. The feature logo was prepared by myself but inspired by a design originally done by Natalie Perkins —

  • This is an acrylic painting originally painted on canvas panel. I was moved to paint this piece due to all of the escalating violence in Richmond, CA and the rest of the Bay Area.

  • This shot was the main centre-spread of a feature I recently had published in Tokyo’s ‘Metropolis’ magazine. It has also featured recently in mags in Australia, Singapore and Poland. To beging with the guy hanging out of the window spotted me and then just wouldnt lean out again. I attached my camera to a 10ft monopod, put a cable-release on and held the camera out with an 11mm lens on it. He thought I had walked off and I still got exactly the angle I wanted….

  • Lithuania, Vilnius

  • A digital montage of rusty things from the city of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie in New South Wales. All three photographs were captured using a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S500, and then processed in Paint Shop Pro where a number of filters were used to create the effects.

  • Its always fun to catch up over coffee and pastries ,and while your there have your portrait taken with a friend ! • I love photographing my Father. There’s a lot of character to be captured in someone who’s lived for 70 years. / We all went to a local airshow today, & Dad I were drawn to the classic & vintage cars that were on display. / This one’s a ‘48 Ford Prefect. / Two classics full of character….
