  • Sea Captain
    by Craig Goldsmith

    US$4.96–US$113.24

This shot has a bit of a story behind it, I was with a group of fellow photographers on what we call a Ferry Hop expedition. Basically we spend the day or most of it, riding the Sydney Ferries to different destinations taking photos on board and where ever we disembark. On this particular outing a few of my fellow photographers and I decided to issue a challenge, walk up to perfect strangers and ask for to take their photo. This was only the second person I ask after the challenge was issued. This lovely gentleman had a great face, a lovely white and gray beard and looked just the part for a nautical theme. As it happens when I approached him, we were nearing a replica tall ship and the Darling Harbour light house (scene in the background). Well all the elements just fell into place, and I only took two shots but I knew I had bag a great image, I thanked the Sea Captain as I’ve now called him, showed him the image and let him travel the rest of the trip in peace. I’m considering entering this in the portrait section of the Real Photography compeition, while it may be a little unconventional, it’s one of my favourite portraits (and most the others my wife won’t let me post as they are pictures of her).

  • Old Captain
    by William Hallatt

    US$4.56–US$104.12

This guy favoured central Odessa and our paths crossed more than once during my stay there. This morning, however, I couldn’t resist sneaking a shot as he snoozed there on his bench. I’m very glad I did as he shaved off that magnificent beard no more than a week later… —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / My Bubble Gallery / Click here to add me to your watchlist. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—

  • The Captain
    by Karen Scrimes

    US$3.99–US$91.20

/ Yet another trip down memory lane with photographs belonging to my mother and father recently found in an old shoebox in the attic. / This handsome chap was actually Captain Burchell “Bud” Grevyburg. A highly decorated Spitfire pilot during the second World War, he saw action over the Pacific but unfortunately received a rather nasty wound to the groin which saw him retired from service, both during the war and ummm….lets just say…in a more permanent manner. / He became part of our extended family in his later years due to his association with my Aunt Lemmy. / At first he was a major sponsor and collector of her artworks. Later, we suspect they became romantically involved. Although it came as a shock to the family, Aunt Lemmy’s eccentric nature (read that as pure madness) and the fact that The Captain was legally blind and almost totally deaf helped explain the liaison. / I remember him as a rather mulish character, who always wore a pin stripe suit, no matter what the occasion. He had a proud military bearing and absolutely saw everything in black and white. He was actually quite stubborn. / His most outrageous feature, and the one that had us kids falling about in hysterics was his raucous laugh, rather like a donkey braying. During evenings spent playing poker and smoking cigars with my Cousin Frank and Great Uncle Leo we would lie in bed listening to the muffled sounds coming from the sitting room. Once The Captain started laughing his crazy horse like laugh, it would signal an all out giggle frenzy to my cousins and I. We got in to soo.. much trouble and endured a few good ‘paddy whacks’ but boy, it was worth it!!!
