Please check out Michael Mitchell’s Website: thegreataustraliancancerbushwalk Giant Tree Frog (Litoria infrafrenata) The world’s largest tree frog – can grow up to 14cm. This species has a horizontal pupil, large pads on the tips of its digits, partially webbed fingers and completely webbed toes. It is bright green above, changing to brown depending on the temperature and background, with a white stripe along the lower lip to the shoulder, and along the edge of the hindleg to the toes. It is whitish below. / It forages on wet and humid nights, often around houses, climbing smooth vertical surfaces using the gripping pads on its fingers and toes. After summer rainstorms males gather around ponds, often perching on trees, and set up a deafening chorus of barking calls to attract females. When distressed it makes a cat-like miaowing call. / Females lay some 430 eggs in summer in still water. The tadpoles metamorphose into froglets at about 2 months old. / Their diet mainly consists of insects and other arthropods. / Its habitat is from rainforests to seasonally dry monsoon woodlands.

Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Banksia plagiocarpa From the Proteaceae Family. / Banksia...after Sir Joseph Banks. / plagiocarpa... From Greek plagios, oblique or sideways and carpos, a fruit, referring to the upturned lip on the open follicles of the fruit. Banksia plagiocarpa is a medium shrub to about 5 metres in height. It was originally collected in the 1860s but remained unnamed and was not collected again until rediscovered in the early 1980s. The leaves are about 100-200 mm long by up to 15 mm wide and are narrowly elliptical in shape with recurved margins which may be entire or serrated. Found in Far North Queensland – Regarded as rare in the wild. I found this Banksia at Sailor’s Creek, Cape North Peninsula, Far North Queensland. 100% of proceeds received from Redbubble in respect to sales of “Banksia Plagiocarpa” will be donated to “thegreataustraliancancerbushwalk” for the Cancer Council. Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Chilli Beach, Cape York Peninsula, Far North Queensland. Chilli Beach is wide and long and fringed with palms – a truly magical spot overlooking Restoration Island, Capt Bligh’s first landing place in 1792. They might say the best time to visit the Cape is May through to October, but I can imagine that the roads would be in very poor condition by August. When we went in May they were just grading the roads preparing for the onset on tourists that visit the Cape. 4WD vehicles only!! Be prepared for corrugations and slow down on those corners – you just might come across a family of wild pigs as we did, luckily we weren’t going fast!! 100% of proceeds received from Redbubble in respect to sales of “Chilli Beach” will be donated to “thegreataustraliancancerbushwalk” for the Cancer Council. Please check out Michael Mitchell’s website thegreataustraliancancerbushwalk My Story takes place in the Coral Sea on board a Ketch: During my first afternoon at sea, the wind strengthened and we were able to head up the coast. As the red sunset faded to a violet dusk and the spiteful east coast rocks passed, I went below deck. Later that evening a strong wind sprung up and the sea became very rough and choppy. Storms were heading our way! / / I put on my wet weather gear and returned to the upper deck. With saltwater spray hitting my face like icy needles, I clung to the handrail. In the distance I could see a lighthouse and knew that our destination was in sight. We maintained our speed and direction and headed towards the light and hopefully safety, in the harbour of Cooktown. It is mottled light blue on the wings and has brown bars on the tail. Family members live in the same territory year-round and reinforce the boundaries at the beginning of the breeding season, calling together and awaiting the response of neighbours. Young stay with their parents for up to 4 years helping to the offspring. They hunt from a perch, staring at the ground and fluttering down to catch prey. They breed from September to January and lay 1-4 eggs in a nest in a tree hollow or termite mound. The female and family helpers incubate the eggs and care for the young who fledge in about 5 weeks. Their call is raucous laughing and their diet consists of reptiles, rodents, birds, insects and other invertebrates. They inhabit Sclerophyll forests, woodlands and parks.
