A bit of color and light over the odd rock formations known as the tesselated pavement along the Tasman PEninsula. The Tessellated Pavement is an inter-tidal rock platform – a common enough coastal landform. But here an unusual set of geological circumstances have resulted in a rare landform. The flat-lying siltstone was cracked by stresses in the Earth’s crust, roughly between 160 million years ago and 60 million years ago. The resulting cracks (joints) are seen as three main sets, one aligned to the north- northeast, a second to the east-northeast and the third to the north-northwest. This jointing, exaggerated by processes of erosion, has created the ‘tiled’ appearance. When seawater covers the rock platform, fragments of rock are carried away. Near the seaward edge of the platform, sand is the main cause of the erosion. When combined with wave action the erosional process causes ‘loaf’ or ‘pan’ formations.

  • Sun and Stone
    by Sam Sneddon

    US$4.28–US$114.00

After shooting the early light of the morning down at Cape Schanck I thought I’d take a quick shot of the sun light reflecting off the large boulders in this little cove. I love the warm colours and shapes of wet boulders in the sun. If you ever go down to this place when the tied is high and the weather a little on the wild side, the massive waves that come crashing in to this little space throw these boulders around making an awesome rumbling sound. A must see if you live close enough to the Mornington Peninsula.

  • I shot this photo earlier this year down at Cape Schanck on the Mornington Peninsula (Victoria). It’s part of a new personal project I’m working on. It was one of those mornings where everything just came together nicely. Of all the photos I’ve ever shot, this is one of my favourites.

  • Rocky Shore
    by EvaMcDermott

    US$3.42–US$91.20

I wanted to try B&W on some of my Cape Breton coastline images. Here is the first taken at a beach in North Shore. 3 Image HDR. RAW photos taken using a Singh Ray Warming Polarizer and 3-Stop Rev Grad Filter. Used PS Elements 6 and infrared effect to convert to B&W. Tweaked the contrast, lighting levels, and used burn tool. I do like my B&W with higher contrast than most would, but that is me.
