  • After shooting the early light of the morning down at Cape Schanck I thought I’d take a quick shot of the sun light reflecting off the large boulders in this little cove. I love the warm colours and shapes of wet boulders in the sun. If you ever go down to this place when the tied is high and the weather a little on the wild side, the massive waves that come crashing in to this little space throw these boulders around making an awesome rumbling sound. A must see if you live close enough to the Mornington Peninsula.

  • The Cape Otway lighthouse, at the bottom of Cape Otway, off the Great Ocean Road in western Victoria (Australia). See this website for more historical information about it: http://www.lighthouse.net.au/lights/VIC/Cape%20Otway/Cape%20Otway.htm After posting this image for critique on DSLRUsers.com (a photo forum I frequent), a couple of people suggested a wider crop and to perhaps lighten the image a bit. I did so, and have received favourable response. As such I have replaced the original that was here with the reworked image.

  • A fisherman on a rock platform at Cape Schanck, Victoria, Australia.

  • Photo of Cape Otway Lighthouse, which is off the great Ocean Road in Victoria.

  • An edit of a photo i took at Cape Otway Lighthouse just of Victoria’s Great Ocean Road in Australia a few months ago on the 28th of February 2008. HDR’d in Photomatix from one RAW file . Found a pic of some birds i took at Elwood Beach a while ago and added them in Photoshop. Some tweaking was also done in Lightroom including the black and white conversion and above is the end result. The Lighthouse is just one of many beautiful attractions in the Great Otway National Park. CAPE Otway Lightstation is the oldest, surviving lighthouse in mainland Australia. The light, which has been in continuous operation since 1848, is perched on towering sea cliffs where Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean collide. For thousands of immigrants, after many months at sea, Cape Otway was their first sight of land after leaving Europe. • A bit of color and light over the odd rock formations known as the tesselated pavement along the Tasman PEninsula. The Tessellated Pavement is an inter-tidal rock platform – a common enough coastal landform. But here an unusual set of geological circumstances have resulted in a rare landform. The flat-lying siltstone was cracked by stresses in the Earth’s crust, roughly between 160 million years ago and 60 million years ago. The resulting cracks (joints) are seen as three main sets, one aligned to the north- northeast, a second to the east-northeast and the third to the north-northwest. This jointing, exaggerated by processes of erosion, has created the ‘tiled’ appearance. When seawater covers the rock platform, fragments of rock are carried away. Near the seaward edge of the platform, sand is the main cause of the erosion. When combined with wave action the erosional process causes ‘loaf’ or ‘pan’ formations.

  • Pulpit Rock at Cape Schank, Victoria, Australia.

  • Dawn this morning on my favorite island. I am visiting Cape Breton for the Celtic Colours International Festival. So far I have seen two wonderful shows, Pipers’ Ceilidh at St Ann’s Gaelic College with pipers from Scotland, Cape Breton, and Cuba and opening night show Common Ground: A Celtic Journey featuring Carlos Nunez from Spain as well as many musicians from Cape Breton, Scotland, Ireland, and Cuba (I guess there are celtic roots there too!). Tonight’s show is Anull gu Aiseag Mhira (Over to Mira Ferry). Inverness Gaelic Choir will be there from Scotland and Cape Breton’s own – Mary Jane Lamond, Wendy MacIsaac, Mairi Rankin, and Patrick Gillis. But the scenery….... is out of this world, and I know I can not do it justice!

  • Taken at Cape Schanck, Victoria. Lawrence Norton (also on Redbubble) and I decided to head down to the cape for a sunrise shoot a few weeks back, and wouldn’t you know it, it was overcast! Not exactly what we had hoped for. But Lawrence in all his optimism, declared “The heavens WILL open up for us!” And sure enough it did, albeit just a little. We’re looking forward to seeing a lot more of these cold, windy, stormy mornings as winter approaches! Shot with a Nikon D200, 12-24mm lens @ 15mm, F/11, ISO 100, polarizer, tripod, cable release. 7 shot HDR plus 2 extra single shot tone mapped images.
