Franschhoek, Western Cape, South Africa was founded in 1688 by a large group of French huguenots who brought with them their native culture and knowledge of food and wine. It’s now described as the food and wine heartland of the country. / Bordered by mountains and gorgeous scenery, I had just a few minutes here to take some shots!
Mountains surrounding Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa I took this photograph from the Seidelberg Wine Estate
Hordes of people make the hike to the 669m-above-sea-level peak of Lions Head, to watch the full moon rise over Cape Town city bowl.
Table Mountain, late afternoon. Cape Town – South Africa
Sometimes the sun has not been given enough time to go down in style. It is chased out of the sky, its light butchered by dark featureless and easy to forget clouds. Not this evening though. In such a wonderful setting and with all the time in the world, at its own pace, it gently covered the whole universe, material and the other one, with its pink warm residue leaving you with an overwhelming feeling of relief and joy. It is often hard to imagine a place like this for us city slickers, with the clock meaningless, space limitless, and your soul miles away from the tension and stress, the main culprits behind the structural damage of our emotional self. Later that night I was carried through sleep on a cushion of wonderful dreams until the sun made its usual roundtrip. Does this surprise you?
Oils on canvas. Cape Town, the city of my birth. Dusk falling and the lights are coming on under the shadow of the great mountain where I was born. When the ‘table cloth’ forms over the mountain, Van Hunks and the old devil are smoking their pipes like crazy in a never ending competition and the cloth of cloud falls over the table like a waterfall. (old legend). The sky is clear over the mountain here today and the sea becomes black and purple as the light shifts. The view is from Blauwberg Strand. Original oil painting is 30×40 inches. Cape Town’s Table Bay Waterfront with Table Mountain in the background- Western Cape, South Africa.
Oil on canvas. ± 8” x 12”. December 2008. Another painting showing the view of Cape Town and Table Mountain (Western Province, South Africa) as seen from Bloubergstrand. I love trying to capture the forces of nature in paint on canvas but believe that only a camera can truly capture the beauty of this amazing and magical place. / Table Mountain has many moods and this view changes all the time, pure magic.. Worked on and off on this for the past few months and again did not use any reference for this. I used to love sitting on the beach and sketching the mountain a few years ago. These days I spend many hours in traffic but at least enjoy this amazing view while I am crawling to work.

One of my favourite vantage points when there’s cloud about. Taken from Seidelberg Wine Estate just outside the beautiful town of Paarl in the Western Cape, South Africa.
Location: Blouberg Beach, Western Cape, South Africa. / Time of day: sunset. / Processing: Blend exposures in Photoshop.
A cloud known locally as the “Cape Doctor”, Capetown, South Africa. Quite a sight to see.
This is a tongue-in-cheek painting of the Greenpoint stadium in Cape Town. There was a lot of controversy around the building of this stadium, I tried to capture the joy of the people who would be watching the games, yet there was some debate about the venue- various environmentalists contested the venue, saying that it was not ec0-friendly. I think Nature will triumph in the end- that is why I painted a laughing dolphin looking on!
a fun depiction of Township life in Cape Town. I tried to show the sense of community that exists here.
