Canon 10D / 17-40mmL Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Lower Antelope Canyon, called Hasdeztwazi, or “spiral rock arches” by the Navajo, is located a few kilometers away from the upper Antelope Canyon and is a more difficult hike. Upper Antelope Canyon at noon, Page, AZ The canyon is accessible only by guided tour, lead by Navajo (the land is owned by the Navajo). The tours require reservations, best made in advance, and it can get crowded. The guides do a marvelous job of keeping the groups separated with only one group per gallery at a time. The stories the guides tell of the land, the discovery of the place… are as interesting as the place itself. Flash floods have been known to occur here, so it is best to avoid monsoon season, and stay with your guide at all times. A tripod, plenty of battery power (backups!), and a wide zoom are a must here. Speaking of backup batteries, it is a good thing I followed my own advice, because just before I took this shot, my battery died. The 20D was still new to me then, and I wanted to see how many shots I could get from one battery. The trail is on the right. Aren’t the colors of the river amazing ! / The Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne is the portion of the valley of the Tuolumne River in Yosemite National Park. As defined by the United States Geological Survey, it begins immediately below Tuolumne Meadows and ends immediately above Hetch Hetchy Valley. / The Tuolumne River runs as a somewhat wavy line from east to west. It originates in the high-altitude flatlands of Tuolumne Meadows, just west of the Sierra Nevada’s main divide.

Antelope-Corkscrew Canyon, shows a powerful ray of light coming through the cavern top and illuminating the cave walls in brilliant orange-reddish colors. Antelope Canyon is so unique, it has also become known as The Corkscrew, Corkscrew Canyon, Upper Antelope, Wind Cave, or The Crack. Upper Corkscrew Canyon is located around the Navajo Reservations and usually requires a jeep to get you there. This location is just outside Page, Arizona. A few miles passed Tortilla Flats, which is outside of Apache Junction, Arizona, this wonderful little oasis pops into view, part of Salt River. Although it is nearly Christmas, the vibrant yellow foliage remains. / Shot with Olympus Stylus 720SW auto, handheld.

A storm had just passed over Watkins Glen and the warm sun was breaking through the misty air in the glen. Watkins Glen State Park is located in the Finger Lakes region of New York, at the southern end of Seneca Lake. This image was captured with a Canon EOS DSLR / Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens. The focal length was 21mm, ISO was set at 400 with an f/8 aperture and shutter speed of 1/30 sec. This Photo I took before sunset on the south rim of the grand canyon. I went to Pima point which is near heremits rest for this shot! Heard about hopi was great for sunset but If you ask me Pima point or mohavee are the better ones and you are more private there! regards, / Michael
