These canyons are stunning from every angle with waterfalls gushing into them.

This is a birds-eye view from above the “Rainbow Falls” in Watkins Glen, NY. This is one of the most specular hiking sites on earth! The young men passing under the falls should give you a good reference to judge of the full scope and majesty of this beautiful setting. THIS ONE REALLY MUST BE VIEWED “LARGE” This photo was taken with a Canon EOS 10D body fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens, at 17mm. The shutter speed was 1/15th sec at f/4.0. The camera’s ISO was set to 400. A Manfrotto tripod was used with Manfrotto “pistol grip” ball head. A remote shutter release was also employed. Your comments are always welcome! Constructive criticism is appreciated. © 2009 Gene Walls All copyright and reproduction rights are retained by the artist. Rocky rapids of the Maligne Canyon near Jasper Village in the Canadian Rockies.
The Stuibenfall is the biggest and highest waterfall in the Tyrol. It’s located near Umhausen, Oetztal, and it takes you some 35-40 minutes to walk from the car park to the foot of the waterfall. the waterfall – divided into two steps – is some 150m high and transports some 610 to 2000 litres of water per second (depending on the weather/rain situation) there are 4 plattforms from bottom to top, where you can get pretty close to the waterfall. this photo was taken from plattform 2, so there are two more / further up the waterfall. but taking photo there is a bit tricky, as the water is coming from all sides >>> camera & lens are getting really wet…

Shot this morning (6/13/09). My favorite canyon to photograph, Ottawa Canyon in Starved Rock State Park in Illinois.
The doorway to Kaskaskia Canyon. Starved Rock State Park. A rock, lilke an old Indian arrowhead points the way to the next waterfall.
Up above Wildcat Canyon in Starved Rock State Park. Every nook and cranny was teeming with life here on a cool spring day.
You won’t get straight growing trees, flat laying logs, or canyon walls that don’t lean over. The soil is sandy here and many trees grow on a 30 to 45 degree angle until a drenching rain or hard wind knocks them over. The most ominous thing here is the canyon walls. They lean and hover over your head. There are broken walls and large rocks and boulders all over the park where rocks have broken off away from a canyon wall. If that happens while you are standing next to it; you’re done. You’re dead. / The amazing area adjacent to Ottawa Canyon.
The basin at lower LaSalle Canyon waterfall in Starved Rock State Park. The first time my family and I visited this canyon.

Ransom Canyon is a town in Lubbock County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,011 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ransom Canyon has some unusually designed homes, including the Lawson Rock House and Robert Bruno’s Metal Mansion According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.4 km²), of which, 0.8 square miles (2.1 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²) of it (11.70%) is water. Elevation is 3,104 feet. Ransom Canyon lies in the south eastern part of famed Yellowhouse Canyon, which is in the upper tributary of the Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos River. Because of its gradual upward climb, this great canyon was easily traversed and, therefore served as a popular entry to, and exit from, the vast Staked Plains (Llano Estacado) of Texas and New Mexico. In 1629, Father Salas of Santa Fe came down the canyon to San Angelo and back again: Captains Martin and Castillo followed the same route from Santa Fe in 1650. Indian tribes, buffalo hunters, Colonel Mackenzie and his cavalry, cowboys with their cattle herds … these and many others have used the canyon with its fresh water springs as an avenue through history. Ransom Canyon derives its name from the older designation, cañon de Rescate, “Canyon of Ransom”; for it was in this region that Spanish and Anglo traders negotiated with the Comanches for the return of the hostages. Canyonlands National Park is located in the American state of Utah, near the city of Moab and preserves a colorful landscape eroded into countless canyons, mesas and buttes by the Colorado River, the Green River, and their respective tributaries. The rivers divide the park into four districts: the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze and the rivers themselves. While these areas share a primitive desert atmosphere, each retains its own character. The park covers 527.5 mi² (1,366 km²). Canyons are carved into the Colorado Plateau by the Colorado River and Green River.[citation needed] / Raft in the Big Drop Rapids, Cataract Canyon.Canyonlands is a popular recreational destination. Over 400,000 people visited the park in 2008. The geography of the park is well suited to a number of different recreational uses. Hikers, Mountain Bikers, Backpackers, and Four Wheelers all enjoy traversing the rugged, remote trails within the the Park. Rafters and Kayakers float the calm stretches of the the Green River and Colorado River above the confluence. Below the confluence Cataract Canyon contains powerful whitewater rapids, similar to those found in the Grand Canyon. / Canon 30D / / Welcome!
