Acrylic on canvas 16” x 12” / Small preparatory study (one of many) / These sketches usually get destroyed in the process of painting the ‘big’ canvases. Occasionally one survives the chaos of my studio and lives on as a little painting in it’s own right!

“Twilight Bay” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © A yacht moored for the night near Dunk Island, Queensland. “Laughter is day, and sobriety is night; a smile is the twilight that hovers gently between both, more bewitching than either.” / ~ Henry Ward Beecher
So there I was, just out for a walk along the beach at sunset. The explosive thermo-nuclear sunset to the west was begging for my attention, but to the east was this little black cloud, hoping to slip by un-noticed and join in all the sunset fun with the other clouds. I caught him in no man’s land, with nowhere to hide. I let rip with a 12 megapixel onslaught, and the rest is history. This image is brand new and will be removed when the quota is reached. In other words: it’s a limited edition. Crops and resizes by request. For more, see my portfolio. Ta.

I had to pop down to Eastbourne, UK to collect an oven won on ebay. I took the hour before the collection to take some pictures of the pier, it was a tad windy but the sky was lovely. As it turned out the oven description was fraudulent so I didn’t get it in the end, but I did come away with something I liked better. Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 24mm, f/9, 1/320 sec, ISO 500. This was taken back in August 2009 on a beautiful morning at 5am. I got up early and drove down to Folkestone to capture a Sunrise. I was not expecting this result.
I will be painting a sunset for a friend’s birthday soon so I had an idea in my mind of what I wanted to paint so did this on Canson 300 gsm watercolour paper and was happy with the result. 30cm x 20cm. I will have to transfer painting onto large canvas and paint in acrylic but may do one more before I choose. Golden Sunset At the end of the day the light grows small / The dark takes over the ruler of all… / The shadows dance enjoying the time / day mingles with night the golden rays shine. Linda
