/ 457X610mm / Acrylic on canvas Inspired by traditional Japanese art I decided to explore the elusive yet beautiful world of being a Geisha. / “Geisha” ( pronounced ‘Gay-sha’ ) means artist in Japanese. The ‘real’ Geisha was not a common prostitute, the first Geishas were men who entertained patrons through artistry. The Geisha evolved into being the role of a woman in Japan, holding the equivalent status to celebrities today for their time. / The different forms of art they performed were tea ceremonies, dancing, calligraphy, painting, music, not to mention they were and still are walking pieces of art. Hence, these amazing iconic figures have inspired paintings with a contemporary edge. / Nicole Whitty / WhittyARt / Self Portrait of myself in another time. 1 SOLD AS GREETING CARD SO FAR! / / / /
