This Fabulous building is the Christchurch Art Gallery. The Gallery, Te Puna o Waiwhetu opened on 10 May, 2003. The name ‘Te Puna’ honours waipuna, the well spring, as the gallery encompases an actual artesian spring and ‘Waiwhetu’ refers to one of the tributaries in the immediate vicinity, which flows into the Avon River. ‘Waiwhetu’ may also be translated as ‘water in which stars are reflected’
Took this a while ago, travelling back to Greymouth from Ashburton with my Dad, driving through the lovely Canterbury ranges on a crisp winter’s day. I was going to clean up some of the spots on the mirror but there is just too many. Still, a fun little experiment in creative shooting I thought you all might enjoy.

Something a bit different from me… On April 16, 2009, I spent the afternoon in Christchurch, the South Island’s biggest city. I had just come out of the wonderful Cathedral when this scene struck me. On one side you have a magnificent work of art, a loving dedication to the local heroes who never came back from World War I. But then you have a big ugly crane busily involved in assembling yet another big ugly office block that has all the character and style of a cardboard box. The cloudy and gray day accentuated the sad scene perfectly.
