  • Took this on Stockton Bight, a long series of sand dunes that stretch from Anna Bay to Newcastle. These traps were placed to protect Williamtown air base (I believe) during World War II. 26km or so of these, 2m high concrete reinforced pyramids, and now all you can find is this small group, situated in a sand blow. Even they come and go depending on the wind. We took a tour from Anna bay, to see the tank traps, tin city and the wreck of the Sygma(?) I think the tank traps were the highlight for me OTHER NEW ZEALAND / FROGS / LENSBABY / INFRARED / BEACH / SPAM / PANORAMAS / LANDSCAPES / INDUSTRIAL

  • Going through some old images and found this shot showing pollen dripping down from the centre of the flower. Really liked the colour offsets in this. Was used in an exhibition I shared with Smarti77 sometime ago. Shot with a Canon 400D – 18-55 lens.

  • Taken at Rhyll early in the morning when the tide was way out. On the way back from Cowes to Woolamai I thought I might stop by Rhyll as I had never been there before even after all the years we had a house there. I spotted this boat tied up in the mud and couldn’t resist a shot. My shoes sank into the mud real deep and had to give the tripod a good clean. Taken with my Canon 40D with polarising and graduated filters. Featured in the All About Boating group on the 19th of April 2009 One of the photos in my Phillip Island series, please click here to see the rest of my images in the series

  • Yes their back! The ladybirds from Mount Burr made an emergence yesterday with thousands massing in a number of spots within the forest. This group were huddled together in their hundreds on a power pole just above ground level. As with all things in life there is always one or two who stand out in a crowd. Canon 400D 18-55 taken at night with aid of a speedlight. Processed in Photo shop CS3.

  • Yesterday I reported the swarming of thousands of these beautiful creatures in the Mount Burr Forest in the South East of the State. This lot were clustered around the nut on a bolt holding the side plate onto a powerpole. Interestingly I went back today and nearly all of the tens of thousands had disappeared back to wherever they came from. What a magical twenty four hours this was. Thanks to Biggzie (see his site for some great images) I can now tell you that they are the: Common Spotted Ladybird / Harmonia conformis Canon 400D 18 – 55 lens with speedlight.

  • Another trip out to the swarming of ladybirds that I have been reporting on at Mount Burr South Australia. This time we took them flowers!!!!!! The thousands I have posted on recently have dwindled to small groups of twenty to thirty and are slowly moving on. They climbed aboard our flowers which gave us opportunities to take some images a little different to those uploaded over the last few days. I promise the ladybirds shots will stop soon but they are just such brilliant works of nature that I can’t help keep going back whilst they are there. Canon 400D 18 – 55 lens with two stage extension tubes and speedlight.

  • Most of the year the calves live with their mothers away from the bulls; in the late fall the calves encounter the bulls when the rut is on. What could the calf be thinking in this image…”Wow, will I grow up to look like you”? They must experience a tug of war; they want to stay near their mothers, but this huge bull is moving into their lives. In the end, the calves watch the bulls warily and try to stay out of their way.
