Flower from the Cannonball Tree. Taken at the Botanical Gardens in Cairns.
My beloved’s favourite quote
Since well trained ninjas made off with posters we put up at the venue to promote the launch we figured some others may enjoy owning your own tiny piece of history. Here is the Ringmaster Bones version of the poster including all the launch details, also available without it. Notice the snugness of his pants!

This is a photograph of a Red Coat named Jim. Jim is involved in reenactments at Fort Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City, Michigan. In his hand Jim holds a cannonball that, if I remember right, weighs 6 lbs. It was this ball that was loaded in to the cannon and then upon being fired traveled approximately 1 mile (which, sadly, is the reason they won’t let them shoot the actual cannonball for the reenactment, just gunpowder – which is still plenty loud enough :) ). You may notice a bridge in the background, that’s the Mighty Mac!
This tree is native to Guyana. I found it at a botanical garden here in Hawaii. There was a little yellow sign below the tree saying “watch for falling cannonballs”. Sure enough, after a minute or so, “crack”! A cannonball came tumbling down and smashed into pieces. The heavy cannonballs contain a meaty pulp and 200-300 seeds. This tree is related to the Brazil Nut and the flowers are only produced on special branches. The flowers can be orange, scarlet or pink and mature into large woody fruit 15-24 cm in diameter. These are some of the most interesting flowers I’ve ever encountered; they’re just amazing!

This tree was growing throughout the parks of Singapore. Couroupita guianansis “Cannonball Tree”…. / Family: Lecythidaceae / The Cannonball Tree is a native of Guiana, Sri Lanka or South America. / The tree is deciduous and large enough for Parks and Open Space planting. ( 50-80 feet ). / It is said to have special significance within the Buddhist religion. The reason the tree is called cannonball is because after flowering, large brown fruit are formed in the size and shape of cannonballs. / The amazingly complex flower of the Cannonball Tree is also heavenly scented, and is a cross between a fine expensive perfume and a wonderful flower scent. =============================
Cannonball Beach can be found on the north side of Dunstanburgh Castle and provides a stunning view of the Castle. This shot was taken on a bitterly cold December morning making the boulders particularly slippery to navigate over, but worth the effort.
This is the flower of the Cannonball Tree, which I photographed whilst walking through a park in Singapore. ======================
A drum roll, please. The human Cannonball is a time-honoured tradition for circus performers the world over. / /

Trinity was attempting to do a cannonball all by herself. It was hilarious because she was trying so hard to get it right she was just going about it all wrong! lol She was trying to get into position as she was about to jump in instead of after she jumped in when you’re supposed to. It’s kinda hard to run & jump while tucking your legs up at the same time, however it is quite comical to watch it being attempted! LOL FEATURED in the group LMAO ART
William Pollock started as an owner-driver in the haulage business in 1935 and, despite the hiccup of Nationalisation in 1949, the fleet had grown to 23 vehicles by 1960. The colour scheme of torquoise, blue and red became a regular sight on the Great North Road as the backbone of Pollock’s work was the night trunk from their Musselbburgh depot at Edinburgh to London. The credit for naming individual vehicles goes to one of William’s sons,Ian,who joined the business in 1963, and this Atkinson artic of 1964 was named after the American series shown on British television in the early sixties and is fighting its way along the old A1 with a load of paper for London. The fleet grew during the sixties to 60 plus and the names included “Day Tripper”,”Thunderbird”,”Early Bird”, Grand Slam” and “French Connection”. This painting, originally done for a transport calendar was purchased for the company boardroom of Pollocks where it now hangs. The original of this painting was in oils on a 20”x30” board. A painting like this of your favourite vehicle, British or American, in oils on canvas or board would cost about £1000.
