  • A great turnout of Redbubblers met at Gladesville Mental Hospital this morning for some photo opportunities – this is a little nook in one of the delapidated buildings. Thanks to Philip and Kaz for organising the day. Gladesville Mental Hospital (formerly Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum) operated from c.1838- Surviving records cover c.1822-1985 In 1838 the lunatic asylum was moved from Liverpool to Tarban Creek, Gladesville and the first patients were transferred from Liverpool Asylum and the Female Factory, Parramatta. It accepted patients from Victoria up until 1848 when the Yarra Bend asylum was opened. By the mid 1960s the institution was known simply as Gladesville Hospital. In 1993 premises at Gladesville Hospital and Macquarie Hospital were revoked as hospitals, and were amalgamated to form the Gladesville Macquarie Hospital. HDR image processed in Photomatix from a single jpeg (with 3 exposures 1/3) then finished in CS3. • Cane Corso (CC) :: Where Size, Power, Balance and Movement merge into the Ideal! / These dogs are classic Mastiffs without the loose skin of other related Mastiff breeds and were once used as cattle drivers. The Corso is a working breed and due to its history of boar hunting, guardian of people and farms, and butcher’s dog, they are required to function under high levels of stress. They are bred for strength, agility, temperament, endurance and, above all, companionship. Cane Corsos originating from the country of origin (Italy) tend to possess a more outgoing, stable temperament than their American counterpart. Cane Corsos are extremely loyal to their family and very aloof with strangers. They are a large breed of dog and take up lots of space on the couch, in the house and in the car. They drool and prefer to wipe their faces on their owners pants. Corsos like to sit close to their family and will sit on your feet, lean against you, often lay their heavy head in your lap. They like to follow you where ever you go and be a part of whatever you do. A cute, eight-week-old Corso puppy will soon turn into a large, dominant dog. That’s why it is very important that Corso get an early basic obedience education and live in a household that uses positive reinforcement and reward based training. Allow it to play, but never to jump! Trust me, you don’t want a 100++ pound mass of muscles jumping on you! Time, Commitment and Patience have their Rewards! Corsos long to be with people and require a couple hours a day of attention and exercise. Such noble dogs deserve nothing less! Puppy Time Sets of Two / / /

  • My Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, with a clock that they both owned. I have it now… / They had what could be called a “strained” relationship. My Great-Grandfather left his family of 9 children to research the possibility of making fuel from sugar cane (in “French Guyana”) for the British government. I have all of the letters he sent home. Four photoimages, edited in Photoshop Elements 3.
