Being a musician and music lover I was drawn to this candle holder and had to try to capture the warm glow of these candles. Today evening ,is the evening of Hanukkah (Chanukkah ) we light the first candle ,while tomorrow is first Hanukkah day.Hanukkah is the annual Jewish festival celebrated on eight successive days beginning on the 25th day of Kislev, the third month of the Jewish calendar, corresponding, approximately, to December in the Gregorian calendar. It is also known as the Festival of Lights, Feast of Dedication, and Feast of the Maccabees, Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Temple of Jerusalem by Judas Maccabee in 165 BC after the Temple had been profaned by Antiochus IV Epiphanes. The image and the concept further brought me to think of Alice in Wonderland. So I suppose the model here could be portraying Alice in a darker light. Instead of tea cups, it’s a birthday cake. When I learned the song Au Claire de la Lune I was 9 years old and in my mind I saw this image very clearly. I guess I didn’t want the candle to be dead and I suppose I mixed up the candle and the death and the letter writing and the moonlight and love and princesses and all the other things little 9 year old girls think about into one colorful image.
