A dark cave, a small opening letting in a beam of sunlight that hits the blue, blue water which fills the largest part of the cave. The perfect occasion for a colorful abstract. You can find this image as a wallpaper on my wallpaper website

Grass seedheads close-up - looking to me like some species of canary grass (genus Phalaris ) - which I photographed in an area of ‘native grasses’ at Royal Pk, Parkville, Melbourne. I am not an expert, and didn’t read the sign, so I’m not sure if this is an Australian native or not. There are more images in this series. Shameless self-promotion I’ve just finished work on a CDROM database of grasses - which doesn’t include this image, I only did the technical aspects of the CD - that is in the process of publication by Nullum Publications, along with a book. Please contact me if you’re interested in Australian grasses, specifically the east NSW/QLD region, and I’ll get you a copy.

A rather sad and beat up looking chipmunk looking for food on the rocks in Fuerteventura seen on our recent holiday… Poor thing looked so pathetic… Brought to mind the famous scene in Oliver. We did give the poor thing some food. I was viewing some properties in the Canary Islands and spotted this – I was immediately drawn to the shadows of course, but also to the way they changed over the various textures of the building. / I tinted this image blue as it seemed to suit it – but perhaps also to momentarily erase the memory of that gorgeous sunshine, as I sit here looking out the window onto a very grey and rain soaked English winter’s day!

These are some of the office blocks in Canary Wharf in London. Manhattan on Thames as it is called… the UK is incredibly undersubscribed in the skyscraper dept in my opinion but never mind. The sky is from another picture I took ages ago that I photoshopped (is that a word) into the shot. Hope you can forgive the artistic license but pale blue sky doesn’t seem to work as well in a B&W picture:)

Stumbled across this staircase on a visit to Canary Wharf – there was something sinister, yet artistic about it so I just had to get a shot!

In Mammoth Hot Springs area of Yellowstone this particular area was well lit while we were there. Crowded with cellphone photographers fresh off a large tour bus I got my shot in just in time.

On a recent holiday in the Canaries I saw this large seed head I thought it was so pretty plus it came out in focus.!

On a recent holiday in the Canaries I saw lots of buildings like this, I half expected Clint Eastwood to trot round the corner on a horse wearing his poncho!. Apparently alot of the Spagetti Westerns were filmed in the Canaries.

So called, as this was taken at Norwich City Football Club, who’s nickname is ‘The Canaries’. / This is Elliot, my 6 year old grandson, who was playing in a mini football tournament there, proudly displaying his medal. / Another collaberation between Glen , who took the photo, Richard, who did the B&W, and myself, the SC and the rest of the editing. / Thank you for looking. /

No, I was not on holiday in the Canary Islands, (I wish!), the title comes from the Phoenix canariensis (Canary Island Palm) partially framing the three quarter moon. The shot was actually made with my old workhorse the Fuji S5500 from the Town Green, beside the Hastings River in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, early on a late autumn afternoon with me braced hard against a post for maximum stability. Remembering that the Moon is extremely bright as well as being extremely far away, I switched to Manual settings for total exposure control and made the shot in B&W as I was still shooting in high resolution .jpg in those days. Fuji S5500: Manual settings of f/9 @ 1/50sec, hand held but braced firmly with arms ticked in tight and controlled breathing. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3 for minimal tweaking. The Canary Island Palm is grown on many a Council owned plot of ground beside rivers and in parks in many places in Australia and in Port, Rainbow Lorikeets burrow into the soft pith-like trunk to make their nests. Find out more about these palms and some moon facts if you wish. Visit the Moon Shots collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more lunar madness. Enjoy! MOON SHOTS / (Click the links!)
