The Birds Aren’t Singing / Miners once took canaries down the mines to detect dangerous gases, if the birds stopped singing or even died it was a sure sign that there was a critical level of gas and they would make their way to the surface. Globally we are producing excessive amounts of CO2 which is choking the planet contributing to global warming, are the birds going to warn us of our impending fate? Detail: /

A rather sad and beat up looking chipmunk looking for food on the rocks in Fuerteventura seen on our recent holiday… Poor thing looked so pathetic… Brought to mind the famous scene in Oliver. We did give the poor thing some food. See other photos on my NEW website at www.andyharris-photography.com * Click here to see some of my other Red Bubble categories Fuerteventura / Flowers / Autumn Collection / Paris / Wildlife / HDR / Skies / Clothing

I was viewing some properties in the Canary Islands and spotted this – I was immediately drawn to the shadows of course, but also to the way they changed over the various textures of the building. / I tinted this image blue as it seemed to suit it – but perhaps also to momentarily erase the memory of that gorgeous sunshine, as I sit here looking out the window onto a very grey and rain soaked English winter’s day!

The Canary Wharf tube station sign at Dockland, London (UK) Who can tell me what the word WHARF means?

Grass seedheads close-up - looking to me like some species of canary grass (genus Phalaris ) - which I photographed in an area of ‘native grasses’ at Royal Pk, Parkville, Melbourne. I am not an expert, and didn’t read the sign, so I’m not sure if this is an Australian native or not. There are more images in this series. Shameless self-promotion I’ve just finished work on a CDROM database of grasses - which doesn’t include this image, I only did the technical aspects of the CD - that is in the process of publication by Nullum Publications, along with a book. Please contact me if you’re interested in Australian grasses, specifically the east NSW/QLD region, and I’ll get you a copy.

So called, as this was taken at Norwich City Football Club, who’s nickname is ‘The Canaries’. / This is Elliot, my 6 year old grandson, who was playing in a mini football tournament there, proudly displaying his medal. / Another collaberation between Glen , who took the photo, Richard, who did the B&W, and myself, the SC and the rest of the editing. / Thank you for looking. /

These are some of the office blocks in Canary Wharf in London. Manhattan on Thames as it is called… the UK is incredibly undersubscribed in the skyscraper dept in my opinion but never mind. The sky is from another picture I took ages ago that I photoshopped (is that a word) into the shot. Hope you can forgive the artistic license but pale blue sky doesn’t seem to work as well in a B&W picture:)
