The Grand Canal in the grand city of Venezia!!! I don’t think I could ever get tired of taking photos here…

Shot in January, great time to be in Venice. / Canon EOS D60, Sigma 18-55 Lens

This is one of 2 pictures I am loading of the Grand Canal, I have a few more, but these where the 2 I been debating over for a while. I like them both for different reasons and could not decide which I preferred. This one I like for the subtle reflection and the light on the homes along the bank, and of course the Lone Gondolier. It was a day full of many seasons, the few days we were there at about 3.30pm the clouds got very dark and it poured like we were in the tropics. Only to clear up as fast as it came around 4pm, and then we could all venture out again. Venice is a magical place.

I’m up to my old tricks again! I’m now truly hooked on the Forgotten Postcard concept. I went digging through my old photos today to find some that I wasn’t altogether happy with to see what could be done. Venice is one of those timeless, European cities. I haven’t had the best of luck photographing it as both times I’ve been there the weather has been horrid. This particular shot was pretty drab and boring. Hopefully it’s a bit more interesting now :)

For the longest time I dreamed of a wild adventure in Italy. In April 2008 that dream became an extraordinary reality. With heightened, rich, vibrant colours canal of dreams creates an almost painterly impression of beautiful Venice. Canal of dreams is my first reference photo for a future exhibition that will also include organic sounds. masks and mixed media art works. (c)sooz2008

During my three week stay in Italy last summer, I had taken around 200 to 300 pictures nearly each day I was there – it comes with the euphoria of being in a foreign country for the first time. This was one of them (out of nearly 3,800 total!) I’m still looking through all of them to see which ones are worthy of being taken into “the lab” hehe

Storm signals off the coast of Venice as I travel to my hotel in a water taxi and view one of the most memorable events of my trip white light coming through a wall of gray clouds creating a visual effect on a small island off of Venice.

This nighttime photo was taken as one of a self-imposed series of photographs I worked on shooting Venice at night during the full moon cycle a number of years ago. All in all, there are about 20 images in this series. Click once on image to enlarge. / / /

An Evening in Rome, Italy

It’s hard to find a scene like this without tourists any more. I just had to wait for a while and then this man who actually looks like he lives there came along to add some character to the photo.

Traghetto (plural: traghetti) means “ferry” in Italian. On Venice’s Grand Canal, traghetti are the passenger boats that cross the canal at seven points between the railroad station and St. Mark’s Basin.
