Over the last summer and fall, I must have taken over a thousand shots of this old buck alone. He was around most of the mornings when River and I were in the woods. Sometimes he was playful, other times very hungry so he simply ignored the camera and kept on eating but this morning he was pensive and wanted a portrait to express just that! I guess I grew quite attached to him! Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada.
The doe was playing with two of her fawns and my dog/”fawn” River when they all heard a dog barking from outside the woods. All of a sudden she stopped, pricked up her eyes and listened intently in order to determine if real danger was approaching. I thought this would make a good card for the group Art for Conservation as the doe wold be “on guard” for nature! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada
The middle-aged buck came right out in front the camera as if to say “Hey, remember me?!” :) Nobody could forget him (not River or me) because he met with us everyday from last spring to fall! And we both love him! :) Everyday we managed to get to the woods to meet with him, our day seemed “right” and “whole” because of it. He made us happy and encountering, watching and playing with him IS, true to the meaning of the word, our (my dog River’s and mine) passion! For the remembrance of this magnificent buck, I shall donate this piece of work to charity for his, and the well being of all the living in the forest! The gorgeous male duck stood proudly as though it was summer while it was almost -40˚c! Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada Thought the colorful duck would like to contribute to the protection of his natural environment. :)
There were many ducks in the little “live” stream that was surrounded by thick ice and deep snow and I caught three close-ups. Both males were looking towards the less colorful female and she was the only one who tried to look through the ice at her own reflection! So I thought perhaps narcissism does not only exist among mankind…. :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada Although deemed narcissistic by my “standard”, I’m pretty sure the “self-centered” less colorful female would not mind the proceeds of the sales of her image be put to use to protect her natural environment – and of course the admiring males could not be happier with the thought, I’m certain of it. :)

All the other ducks (there must be more than 100 of them) were watching this one beautiful male duck perform what I’d like to call “daytime ballet”, in the freezing winter (River wore her thick coat and she was trembling standing in the deep snow) and none of them seemed to be the least bit disturbed by the weather. / Ted made a comment the other day on another duck photo (taken the same day) that it didn’t seem to be very cold to him – perhaps he, too, like the ducks, was deceived by the brilliant light and the hint of shiny sky but I kid you not, it was -37˚c! :)
The winter trees looked as though they were on fire when the setting sun shone upon them.
The sisters knew they are beautiful so they posed for the camera for a long time until I got it “right”. :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Algonquin Park
My patient who lives in the woods set up a feeding pan for the deer who live around him and this little fawn looks really well fed thanks to my patient. She was not in so much of a hurry to get food anymore so she had time to pose for a nice portrait in front of her “food source”. :) My patient liked this young fawn very much as he thought she looked as though she was a “stuffed animal”. :) :) :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada.

ancient forest trail through lush green trees, Whistler, British Columbia, Canada
A journey through the woods last winter, I came across this scene.
Twisted bare trees line a rocky, leaf strewn path, leading deeper into the dark mysterious wood. This was taken at the beautiful arboretum at the University of Guelph, Canada.
Prickly dark thistles are silhouetted against the eerie soft pink light of approaching October dusk. This was taken at the beautiful arboretum at the University of Guelph, Canada.
