I can still remember my very first camera that my parents had given to me when I was about 8 years old. I took that camera everywhere and snapped shots of anything and everything, however it wasn’t until much later in life that I was really bitten by the photography bug. I was planning a big move to the Canadian Rockies and thought now is the perfect time to buy my new camera gear for shooting wildlife. I bought all the equipment I needed that would put me up close with all the wildlife that the mountains had to offer. So off I went chasing Bears, Bighorn sheep, Moose, Elk and Wolves… pretty much any critter I could capture with my lens. It was a fascinating and thrilling experience. Then fate brought to me a girl and she would change my life forever… Newfoundland is where I now call home, with my beautiful wife and baby son. This province is a photographer’s paradise. The scenes change from day to day and the opportunities for capturing them are endless. With my camera in tow I now begin my journey through Newfoundland, photographing and capturing her raw and rugged beauty to share with the world. I hope you enjoy the photographs presented here. The rugged and treacherous coastlines give way only to the unforgiving North Atlantic Ocean. It is a coastline marked with lighthouses that act as ever watching sentinels to welcome weary travellers home. It is a land of beautiful & quaint coastal towns, villages and cities. Newfoundland is a land visited by frozen giants from the North that create a sense of awe when seen by human eyes as they float down what is known as “Iceberg alley”. It is a land visited by massive whales during the summer that attract multitudes to the shorelines. It is a land rich in history and folklore and it is a land inhabited by a people who will welcome you with open arms. It is a land you need to visit… Newfoundland… In Living Color, captures the raw and rugged beauty of a landscape still yet untouched and marred by man’s corrupt hand. Tobermory is a gorgeous little town on the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario. It’s harbor not only filled with luxury yachts but also with a lot of shipwrecks, which makes it a divers paradise. It’s part of the Fathom Five National Marine Park of Canada. Luckily for me you don’t have to dive to discover a few of the shipwrecks. Luckily because I spent to much time underwater once, without diving gear, and I’m not inclined to submerge myself for longer periods under water. ;) This beauty caught my eye when strolling along the shore, with the duck approaching, I had to hurry but I was just in time to capture it. Background Information: / Moraine Lake is a glacially fed lake in Banff National Park, 14 kilometres outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6183 feet (1884 m). The lake has a surface area of 0.5 km². The lake, being glacially fed, does not reach its crest until mid to late June. However, when it is full, it is a beautiful shade of blue. The lake gets its color from the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake on a continual basis. I am most proud of this shot so far in my short time doing photography. This image incorporates my passionate nature with my love of the ocean. I used to lobster fish with my Dad and so the ocean holds a lot of dear, and not so dear LOL, memories for me. I almost froze my hands off doing this. It was snowing a little while before I took this shot so you can imagine close to the water, with a breeze, how cold it was. However, in the name of love and romance, anything goes! LOL

In life as well as fishing it’s all about the journey! / As the sunrise burned through the fog early Sunday morning, on Clear Lake near Hunstville, Ontario, two fishermen enthusiastically set out for their favourite fishing spot… / This shot was as a result of an early morning walk in / August 2008 in the fog: part planning, part serendipity. 1840 v2.0 / With the original versions of these pictures I was not able to use all the shots because they where damaged. But now, four years later, and with Photo Shop CS3, I’m able to rescue some really great pictures and show them now with pride. / This series was done in the middle of the woods, around the middle of Dec, 2002. It was freezing! The hot chocolate helped though. Most of these pictures are with Theak & Alex standing together, this was not a direction, and they were doing this out of a need for warmth! Half of these pictures were taken using a Nikon F, or F2 I believe, (no markings on the camera), and the other half with a Canon G3 digital camera. / Great makeup job by Rhiana, and of course, the whole look and feel of this shoot would not have been possible if not for the styling of Elisa. / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net

I sit here and look out over this world. Disturbed I am by what I see. I had a dream once. A dream where all creatures got along, where respect and honor was strong. Where helping the weaker and less fortunate was not a favor but an Honor. Where one could speak his language with no fear of ridicule. Where one did not have to put on a mask or costume to fit in.I sit here and feel I am so far away and drifitng each day. There is anger in me that I have tried to keep in but everyday when I come up here and look out there it is rekindled. I see the ones searching and wanting to let go but out of fear they stay chained in their own prison. Not fear of failure, but out of fear of what the mass may think of them. I see the ones that want to fight but are not willing to join the fight because if the battle is lost, what will happen to them then. Time is being wasted like it will always be there, but it is slowly going by. Soon the gift of time will be the burden of wasted years. I may come back up here again, but right now I really do not want to. I think my anger is calling for me to take flight and keep searching for them, I feel so far away.

AMERICAN BALD EAGLE (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) Bald Eagles live near large bodies of open water such as lakes, marshes, seacoasts and rivers, where there are plenty of fish to eat and tall trees for nesting and roosting. Bald Eagles have a presence in every U. S. state except Hawaii. Bald Eagles use a specific territory for nesting, winter feeding or a year-round residence. Its natural domain is from Alaska to Baja, California, and from Maine to Florida. Bald Eagles that reside in the northern U. S. and Canada migrate to the warmer southern climates of the U. S. during the winter to obtain easier access to food, especially fish. Some Bald Eagles that reside in the southern U. S. migrate slightly north during the hot summer months. Pet name Liberty Hatched 1996 Distribution: From Alaska and Canada down to Florida. Diet: Mainly fish but also carrion and various mammals. Bald eagles are very sociable and vocal birds.

Although it is quite willing to dig its own burrow, it often uses one already provided by prairie dogs, skunks, armadillos, or tortoises. A small Owl with a round head and no ear tufts. They have white eyebrows, yellow eyes, and long legs. The Owl is sandy coloured on the head, back, and upperparts of the wings and white-to-cream with barring on the breast and belly and a prominent white chin stripe. The Butchart Gardens in Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island, Canada, is one of the world’s premier floral show gardens. Jennie Butchart began to shape this magnificent landscape in 1904. She established, in the style of the grand estates of the period, several distinct gardens to evoke a range of aesthetic experiences.
