Taken in 1966, this is one of my favourite images of the 60’s of the iconic DJ, Sir Jimmy Savile OBE. I took the shot when I was 20 during my assistant days at 1:15 am, after a long advertising shoot for a petrol company with my boss, top fashion and advertising photographer John Cowan. I asked Sir Jim if I could run a couple of rolls of film for my portfolio. True gent that he is, Jim said “Sure!” even though every one was pretty tired after the 5 hour gasoline ad session. Anyhow, this is the result and it remains one of my favourite pictures to this day as it shows Sir Jim as he really was and is – a strong and generous human being who did not take himself too seriously. You are a true professional Jim, and I am eternally grateful to you for giving me this opportunity. Hunter Thompson should really require no introduction. Quite simply put, he was THE man. But, if you don’t already know him, I guess now you do. The day the news of his apparent suicide broke was the first time a ‘celebrity’ death ever hit me like a sack of bricks. The only other one to’ve effected me in a similar way was that of Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (Who, I imagine, will be another subject of mine, soon enough.) This man was and is one of my go-to guys, one of my all-time heroes in life. Another one-hour portrait. Oils on 8” x 10” canvas panel.

Obama is a fasinating figure to study and draw. Despite is profound abilities for simple cadence, his face is full of complexity and thought. I do believe he will be our next president and thus the title, the edge of hope. Win or lose I am convinced he will be a cultural icon for a long time.

Game between the old government and the new candidates. / The shape of this frame and putting nine images together i have used quite often in my artworks. There is a bit different version for dark shirts as well. In my zazzle shop you can find the same design showed on different models, colours and the backside printed with logo and instruction. I never even considered how much more effective this campaign would be ‘til the inspiration recieved from a fellow ‘bubbler’, made me!! I think it’s a GREAT way to get the message across!! (Happy to negoitate the $ displayed!)

The ice cream truck and I were invited to a outdoor political rally last year in August. For the truck and me it was a gig, but for the 1000 New Hampshireites ahead of me it was an event, well the photographer in me realizing that we (the truck and I) were behind the crowd, I was able to sit on top of my ice cream truck with very little notice from anyone and with the best seat in the house was luck to get some good shots… soooo these are timely editorial shots of Barack Obama from a August 2007 Campaign Event in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire. – Contact me you want a larger size then the card.
