Took these with a Motorola Razrphone cellphone camera. The end result is so tiny – 1” x 1” by 72 dpi, that the pixellation becomes part and parcel of the image. I like that.

Foggy morning waiting at the traffic lights. Wurundjeri Way (Docklands Hwy), Melbourne.
This is it. Taken in 2004 with a humble Sony Ericsson mobile phone late one afternoon on the French Alps, this is the breathtaking view that inspired me to explore the world of photography in the hope that I might find and capture equally incredible image We were the last group allowed to take the chairlifts to the top of the mountain. When we disembarked, we turned to face the run back down to the village and this is what we saw. The late sun was descending while a torrent of cloud swirled around the mountains. It was nature at its most exhilarating. The rest of my group saw this as a sign to descend as quickly as possible and set off immediately. But I knew this was a sight I might never experience again, so I pulled out my mobile phone, took the shot, and had one final look before donning my goggles and making my way down through the cloud. It was a moment I’ll never forget. Asma’s a kid I’ve been meaning to shoot for a while, but I somehow seem to never have a half-decent camera at hand when I meet her. She’s rather different from the other kids I’ve met in her (non-existent) shoes – she’s quiet, and doesn’t rush at you and clamour for a nickel. In fact, she didn’t really warm up to me until we sat down on the dusty pavement one day and had a bun together. After which, she’ll whisper in my ear, which, too, is unthinkable for any other kid like her – in fact, about all she has in common with them is the rags, the hunger, and being stuck in the cycle. I digress. So not having a decent camera with me, I chose to shoot with the N95 instead – after all – any picture’s better than none, right? I owe her a print of this, and I think I’ll try and get something where the flowers are brighter, too, so she can smile and I can get a better shot, too =) (disclaimer – this image is noisy, and not very high quality. Having said which, I believe it still captures the sense of the moment)
