  • And brought this….......

  • Peaceful people on a Fire Island beach looking for colored beach glass and unusual stones. Click once on image to enlarge. This image has been nominated for the prestigous Pay it forward group by Geraldine Lefoe This is what she had to say about it: “I love the mood created in this image by Mark Ross – the lighting and treatment are superb.” Geraldine also commented personally as follows: Amazing art Mark – came across your work somewhere else then found you on Redbubble. I love the way you have captured these people each in their own world as though no one else exists. Your processing is superb. Thank you for nominating this Geraldine! I’m very pleased you like it. / / / / /

  • You told me that you loved me / but I saw you running beside the sea / with her / hand in hand / toes in the sand / making memories out of nothing at all / It’s all I ever wanted Would you dip yourself in my heart? So I curled my salted hair / around my lingering fingers / and I cut myself on the rusted ring / from the sea / you gave me / nothing that mattered / more than this / that / everything / you gave me nothing / that I need. © ryan

  • Is it bright where you are

  • Capt. John Davis and Bombardier Lt. Carl Thompson are walking passed their bird to meet the rest of the boys for a few beers. Both can faintly hear music and laughter of men spilling from a tent near the end of the runway. Davis looks back into the setting sun, listens to the big radial engines still ticking from an earlier test flight. The distinct smell of burnt oil still lingers in the air. / “God I love that smell” he thinks to himself. / He gazes down upon the puddles of oil underneath the port and starboard engines. / “Hey, does it look like engine one is leaking more than usual?” John asks, turning to Carl who had his half smoked cigarette in the corner of his mouth. / “It’s been leaking more since Frankfurt”, Carl replies. / “Frankfurt? Yeah, I think you’re right”. Davis can still hear the screams of the waistgunner, when the shrapnel tore through the entire port side. / “Poor Sammy, he never had a chance”, Davis says. / Carl didn’t reply, just walked quietly next to John, the setting sun throwing long shadows onto the tarmac, making them both look like giants. / Both men knew that tonight they indeed feel larger than life, because there is no mission tonight. • If you don’t already know, I have this weird (at least I’m told) Obsession with arachnids. I think they are one of the most beautiful and amazing creatures. I have been trying and trying to get a good shot of one, but since I don’t have a macro lense yet, it’s been difficult. I used my 4x zoom filters, which usually turn out blurry, but this one turned out great, in my opinion. And the fact that I caught this lovely lady on a white background, with the shadow she cast! What luck! Let me tell you, she did NOT want to pose for me. I had to keep nudging her to get out of the ball she formed. After this shot she just froze for well over an hour. Poor thing, I scared to death! I believe this gal is a “Barn Spider” ie. Araneus cavaticus / I think this makes such a cool looking card! LOL

  • This (far left) cup has been travelling around the world – who knows where it is now. Here (an old rectory in Glebe, Sydney). I’ve tried to create a disparate collection of cups (different backgrounds, histories, journeys or purposes) while they have a core similarity, connection or raison d’etre.

  • Just a little fun still life I set-up and captured. Thank you for your time.

  • The first snow of the season, going outside with my camera i was fascinated from this young woman who was walking alone in this solitary country road.My attention was captured by her little red umbrella as if she wanted put a little bit of color to the melancholic atmosphere of that grey day.

  • This is the gentle glacier and melt water hills and valleys of Yorkshire outside the village of Kilham. With the crop safely gathered in, the ghost trails of the plants form the track for the rolling runaway trains of the clouds above. Converted into a black and white pinhole. Best viewed large this was taken a few moments before this shot

  • On a wonderfully misty morning trip which took me yesterday again to the grounds of the country-house Groeneveld near Baarn again, I had the lucky encounter with an unknown girl coming my way on this lane. With her consent I could take some shots. Groeneveld, 27th September 2009, 9.30 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 150 mm / F 22, 1/30, ISO 200

  • I recently shot a wedding for two dear friends. The bride calls this particular photo her “Indiana Jones Hero” shot. Awww. Don’t they look madly in love? They truly are a match made in heaven…and so easy to photograph!! • Autumn 2009 – pencil on paper This was created using 2,4 and 5B’s (that acted like H’s) on a non-marked cotton rag paper that acted like a cranky toddler. 8.6” high x 11.75” wide This is the very naughty paper I bemoaned a while back. / I really wish I knew the name of it so to avoid it at all costs the rest of my life. But anyway, enough of my moaning, it’s done. This was a hard one to title. I really couldn’t figure out WHY I was drawing it in the first place. I started out a few months ago making it very large – 30” across, but that’s when I had a fit and tore the paper in half. The catholic in me had to find redemption so I took a little bit of it and decided to try it again. The image wouldn’t leave me alone. It was strange though – it didn’t want to title itself. It typically shows up close to the finish, but even just a few days ago, it was not here. Humpf. A few tried to flirt with me. Didn’t work. I thought I’ll just let it rest. Until yesterday, when life and it collided. A friend sent me that quintessential Anais Nin poem for other reasons and I knew that I must take the first portion of it for my title.. And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin / US (French-born) author & diarist (1903 – 1977) ......................................................................................................... And suddenly, it all made perfect sense. So bloom my dears, bloom… / (smile) (I’m very happy to report that a slightly cropped version of this was included (and sold) in the Australian Mirrors Art Exhibition) This photo below was taken November 1 at The Anderson Arts Center where the framed original made its debut. /

  • Yesterday morning nearly all my photographic dreams of the past weeks came true again! It was a brisk misty morning, with the sun breaking through later. I took the bike and went to one of my favourate shooting grounds, the forests near Lage Vuursche, some 6 miles away. And everything happened, riders came along on a misty lane and path, mountainbikers and walkers enlivened the scene, but there were also quiet moments when the lanes and forest just belonged to me. So I came home with a big load of shots after more than three hours – and the heart did not protest once! This really gives a lot of hope for the time to come! Of course there are many shots to share now, but I shall spread the best in my usual way, never more than one per day. After all this gallery is growing fast enough, with more than 500 pictures already. And nothing better to start with than a nice sunbeam shot, with the last November leaves on the beech-trees and a lovely carpet of fallen leaves on the ground. Near Lage Vuursche, 8th November 2009, 10.48 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 75 mm / F 9, 1/60, ISO 400

  • Stay tuned for more B-movie adventures of Shadowman with the brilliant artists Mel Brackstone here and whatsthatbeeping here. / I loved shooting with these two guys, please check out their superb portfolios. / This shot was taken at the abandoned nurses quarters at the Royal Brisbane Womens Hospital, then played with in Photoshop and a texture added. / No monsters under the stairs were harmed in the making of this image.
