One of the most historically significant statues along the Charles Bridge in Prague. The original wooden Crucifix was installed in 1361.
I took this close-up of Jesus on the cross which was in a very old cemetery and then when I saw these words on a church marquee, “Jesus built a bridge with two boards and three nails,” I added them to the photo. Something to really meditate about!
The Crosses of Calvary at Sunset. The verse says it all for me. No greater gift given to mankind than this! All proceeds of the sale of this card.image will donated to CEF. I have been honored to have this image used in many churches around the world. I am also honored that Ellen chose this as her favorite image. think its not only a beautiful photo, but the text is very important to me. / About 29 years ago i became a christian, and that was the most important moment in my life, because it changed everything. / Thats why the photo means a lot to me, because it shows the way to Jesus who gave His life for us so we could have a relation with God the father. / Thanks DawsonImages for sharing this beautiful photo! http://www.redbubble.com/people/ellen

THE POWER OF—-CALVARY HE is the Living Water of Life… [on the left] / HIS blood was shed for ‘all’…[on the right] / While ‘all’ will live eternally--Where do you / want to live??? [the center—Resurrected Life] If the believer grasped ‘all’ that was accomplished / the Day at Calvary--it would light up the world / and obliterate darkness…That Day will come! / Never-the-less—Hold fast what thou hast already / lest no man take thou crown! If the unbeliever think HE was ‘just a good man of / good works and not the only way’… / Let him think again… / Even the master of darkness and deception knows / the real story—-and he is on the run… Thank You God for CALVARY! Never-the-less-- / COME QUICKLY LORD JESUS— / COME QUICKLY!!!
Life-sized plastic figurines in a Christian theme-park, Argentina. Calvary (Golgotha) is the English-language name given to the site, outside of Ancient Jerusalem’s early 1st century walls, ascribed to Jesus’ alleged crucifixion. Although the significance of the name is lost to modernity, Calvariae Locus in Latin, Κρανιου Τοπος (Kraniou Topos) in Greek, and Gûlgaltâ in Aramaic all denote ‘place of [the] skull.’ Although usage since the sixth century has been to designate Calvary as a mountain, the Gospels call it merely a “place.” The word “calvary” is only found in the King James Version of the English Bible in Luke 23:33. The word “calvary” is not from the original Greek versions, but is a gloss from the Latin Vulgate. / ( Wikipedia )

I don’t think the great Carmelite saint, John of the Cross, was urging us to shut up about our sorrows in this quote; rather, I believe he was reminding us that in the midst of our anguish there is more comfort from the silent Suffering Servant who feels our pain and embraces us within His own than in all the words of frustration, complaint, or explanation we might try to express.
This was inspired by a wonderful Christian song, “Above all powers”, which talks of Jesus “like a rose trampled on the ground, You took the fall and thought of me above all.” / The original artwork is till available and can be purchased from www.veritasse.co.uk It is 76cm x 51cm and painted onto 4cm block canvas. It is painted around the edges of the canvas, so can be hung unframed.

I’ve coupled an American robin with a European legend about the robin; I think it makes for a nice marriage. And a very good message for Lent and Easter, too! Bearing His cross, while Christ passed forth forlorn, / His God-like forehead by the mock crown torn, / A little bird took from that crown one thorn / To soothe the dear Redeemer’s throbbing head. / That bird did what she could; His blood, ‘tis said, / Down dropping, dyed her tender bosom red; / Since then no wanton boy disturbs her nest; / Weasel nor wild cat will her young molest; / All sacred deem the bird of ruddy breast.
Known locally as the Pony Express Graves, old Fort Pierce was, according to legend, the burial site of one Pony Express rider (1861), and later, three US Calvary soldiers that had been ambushed by Shoshone warriors (1864). Although the US military disclaims any record of the men being there, some years ago their three bodies were exhumed and re-buried at the Fort Douglas (UT) cemetery. Four fenced graves with illegible wooden markers are all that remain of Fort Pierce. ©Seth F. Weaver, Sr. 10/17/88. A Japanese brush ink sketch. I did a whole lot of these very quick little sketches for a sidewalk art sale a few years back sold them for $5 each. This one has always been a favorite of mine. I’ve done several variations of this composition. / This was inspired by the Civil War. I love the Civil War since my great great grandfather actually fought in it. I can hear the thundering horses, the clashing sabres, the small arms fire and all this played out on a field of death and destruction.
2007 Acrylic Abstract on 140 lb w/c paper 16×22” Wounded Knee was a Native American encampment in the Old West, made up mostly of old men, women and children, when it was attacked by the US calvary.
According to legend, three US Calvary soldiers were ambushed by a Shoshone raiding party, and were buried here alongside one Pony Express rider who met a similar fate, a few years before them. The US army disavows any knowledge of these men, yet their bodies were removed from the site, and re-interred at Fort Douglas, Utah. The gravesites and a plaque are all that remain of Fort Pearce. / U.S. Calvary soldier’s grave at Fort Pearce / Egan Canyon – Eastern Nevada / (2009.JUL.20) RedBubble Album: Harsh Realities Canon 350D EOS / Sigma 70/300mm Corel PhotoImpact x3
