Moffat Headland Moonrise (Caloundra). This was the night of the recent eclipse. I was hoping to get some colours of the sunset coinciding with the moonrise but the clouds wouldn’t co-operate. I was happy though with the soft glow effect.
The shipwreck of the S. S. Dicky on a Sunshine Coast Beach in Australia. A 40 ton steamer ran aground in 1893. The sea has gradually carved away at it after over 110 years of the waves washing over it. A glorious sunrise helped illuminate it as the tides began to come in.

The SS Dicky was washed ashore onto Dicky Beach in 1893 during a cyclone. It was re-floated, but again, heavy seas turned the ship about and back onto the sand where it remains to this day. / / The suburb and beach was named after the ship. The beach is an unspoilt stretch of sun-drenched sand, on Queensland’s magnificent Sunshine Coast. Taken with my 5D and 16-35mm lens and I was so lucky to have a nature spectacle as the fog rolled in from West creating a mystic ambience I have also written a photographers guide if you are interested in knowing more about this site

Rough seas in 1893 washed the “SS Dicky” ashore, and like an iceberg, is mostly covered by sand these days. After several days of rough seas again the last few days, most of that sand has been washed away, and she is exposed again. This photo taken about the middle of an incoming tide, the seas were 5 metres (about 15 feet). My lens got a nice soaking during this shoot, and I almost lost my footing (and camera) to the swell.. Yesterday Scott and I had to go to the North Coast, on an impulse we dropped by Dicky beach on the way home. This is what we found. A good part of the wreck has been removed, after it collapsed from the high seas. The fishermen were driving through the gap with their trucks, and the low tide made it look even more sad and forlorn. I used my infrared camera to capture this image, since middle of the day images just don’t work too well when you’re out on the beach without a tripod. I’ve never shot the wreck from this viewpoint before, and certainly never at this time of day. It is a record shot, however, so that we can all save the view for historical reasons, if nothing else. Thanks for viewing. Canon powershot pro1, 7.2mm, f/3.2, 1/400”, ISO 50. Keeping in mind this is a compact camera, these figures really mean nothing much. Another from the SS Dicky Series
