  • This image was taken on 9/11/2002. I had to go to a quiet place and there I discovered a beautiful sun setting into Lake Michigan.

  • I was on a five-day trip to California and was audaciously trying to fit in the Mojave Desert, Death Valley and Yosemite National Park all in one go. Sleep ended up being the factor that lost out on this particular road trip, and on this particular morning I got myself up at 4.30am to head down to Mono Lake and catch the sunrise before scooting up over the pass into Yosemite. I had the best weather a photographer could ask for, and the morning as I cut through the mountains over Tioga Pass, I had cool blue skies and still clear air, and I was pretty much the only person around. I hit this little lake about halfway in to the Village and it was just enchanting- the water was so calm, the reflection achingly beautiful, and the sunlight on the trees was magnificent- I just had to stop for a few minutes and roll off some shots before jumping back into the car and barrelling down to the Valley itself. • the inside of the 15th Century Church at Magné in the Marais Poitevin region I love the vaulted ceilings and the fact that in this church you are allowed to go up on the Mezzanine. It was a lovely place to sit and just contemplate for a while. I tried with several different iso and shutter speeds this was probably the clearest and nicest that came along, I didn’t have the tripod with me on this occasion, everytime! • On the calm stillness of early morning twilight, just before sunrise, you can get the clearest sense of beauty just by listening to the silence. It is punctuated now and then by a waking creature or a sound of civilization coming back to life to begin a new day. But being alone with nature in these first few moments of dawn is often a treasure. LavenderMoon~

  • Ok, bit of education today. Have you ever wondered what is the difference between Fog and Mist? Fog is suspended moisture while mist is falling moisture…(a fine rain if you will). / When you have a slight thermal inversion you have a greater chance of witnessing the phenomena of fog… For instance a cold layer of air lying low over a warmer body of water…When the air temperature over a pond is very very cold and the relative water temperature is considerably warmer you will have early morning fog.. As the sun heats up the atmosphere and the air warms up the difference disappears and along with it the fog…This is why some weathermen will state that the sun will burn off the fog by 10am and visibility will return to normal.

  • Edit : The title has been changed, thanks to my friend Joanne’s beautiful and poetic comment. This is my second experiment with artificially blurred sunrises/sunsets. Please see Sunset Blur – Experiment 1 for more details and credits. For this image, I worked the same way but added yet another step at the end. 1. Using the rectangular marquee tool in Photoshop, I selected the lower part of the image, from the horizon, down. / / 2. I feathered the selection 10 pixels and applied a gaussian blur, with a radius of 8,8 pixels. 3. I repeated the process for the upper part of the image (from horizon, up). I deselected. 4. On the whole image, I applied a motion blur with a 0° angle and a distance of 999 pixels. 5. I repeated step 4. Right below is Sunset Blur (Experiment 1): / /
