A wintry ice storm came in a fury and laden the trees with inches of ice around the tree limbs. Trees were doubled over from the weight and many trees were uprooted. The sun was trying to break thru the clouds and the sunlight made the ice glisten and sparkle. It was so peaceful and beautiful. / Taken in East Stroudsburg, PA / Canon 30D, CS3 / / Welcome! Icon #2 Point Ormond I am doing a St Kilda/ Elwood icon series. / I wanted to get the Point Ormond beacon. But when I climbed up there last night I realised the base had recently been encased in concrete and it looks horrible. / So I wandered down to the beach and took a shot of the city from Elwood with the beacon in the top right hand corner. The multi-coloured lichen covered slices of bedrock jutting out of the sea at an acute angle in the forground give clues to the geological composition of this Special Area of Conservation. Morning sun filters through the trees at John Olivers Cabin with a few dogwoods in the background…The cabin is almost completly surrounded by split-rail fence also…...The Oliver’s bought land in the Cove in 1826 and this cabin site remained in the family until the Park was established. The house is typical of many found on the eastern frontier in the mid-1850s, and reflects the skills and techniques brought into the mountains by descendants of British and European immigrants. This cabin is located on the Cades Cove Loop Road, in the Great Smoky Mountain N.P.

Photographed at Pembroke Dock, Wales one misty Easter morning. The sun was just managing to break through, revealing the very faintest of detail on the water. I could just make out some white blobs in the mist and with autofocus struggling, I managed to capture this quiet, soft, simple image. Canon 10D / 1/125th sec at f14 / 35-135mm Canon EF lens at 135mm / ISO 100 Processing: Cropped and cleaned up in Lightroom, contrast manipulated to enhance detail, gentle unsharp masking.

A beautiful detail of a calm sunrise in Sobra on island Mljet. I woke up before sun, and as soon as I saw the colors I ran out of the house with the camera. Small fisherman’s boats were floating on the calm sea, and as the place is turned to east, the scenery and colors were stunning and ideal for shooting. / It was really beautiful. :) Location: Sobra, island Mljet, Croatia Additional information: / Hitech ND grad filter used.
