Still life photograph of little flower and stacked stones set on an incense tray. Mixed media print on gouache stained and acrylic and Inkaid primed Japanese Kinwashi paper. Red ink stamped Chinese characters mean: Study, Dream, and Love. 11” x 17”. The original file was shot with a Lensbaby. The image was printed on Urara paper then scanned. That file was printed onto the altered Kinwashi substrate.
Mixed medium collage on various papers. Photograph of bird’s nest printed on Japanese rice paper with gouache staining and chinese calligraphy. Red square collage with bird head. Japanese block printed tree paper. Two leaves collaged onto Kinwashi paper. A fortune reads ” A pleasant surprise is in store for you”. The characters mean: love, trust, dream, and fortune.
When I was preparing to shoot this nude series I knew I didn’t want to create images to stimulate the male libido. I was seeking a psychologically expressive female figure for myself. Some of the feminist literature that has influenced my thought in this area is a book by Linda Nochlin “Women, Art, And Power And Other Essays”. In this book she reaches an all time high in feminist rhetoric when she photographs a male nude holding a tray of banana’s held at knee height….!! So refreshing! / _______________ / This Image “Imprinted Woman”. Photo montage printed on Kinwashi. Three images montaged in Photoshop: Nude, Chinese calligraphy pattern, and cut radish (the vegetable) pattern. The final image was printed on an Inkaid prepped Kinwashi paper. 11’’ x 14”. The radish “paper” is very interesting; a small sheet about 6×8 inches of thinly sliced radish rounds pressed together into a translucent sheet. I found it at Hiromi Paper in Santa Monica http://www.hiromipaper.com/store/home.php.

Salam in arabic means peace... And this is what we need… It is also a lamb lying on its back, licking its front leg............... ;)
Shalom (שָׁלוֹם) is a Hebrew word meaning peace, Nothing missing, Nothing broken, wellbeing, and complete, and used to mean hello, and goodbye. As it does in English, it can refer to either peace between two entities (especially between man and God or between two countries), or to the well-being, welfare or safety of an individual or a group of individuals. It is also used as a greeting to either say hello or farewell, and is found in many other expressions and names. Its equivalent cognate in Arabic is Salam, Shlomo (ܫܠܡܐ) in Syriac-Assyrian and sälam in Ethiopian Semitic languages from the Hebrew root shin-lamed-mem (ש.ל.ם).

translation: swallows, heart (chinese calligraphy), flower
The traditional classic chinese word “ai” (love) consist of the word “xing” (heart) at its core. “Ai Xing” in mandarin means “loving heart”. I have simply highlighted the core word “xing” in red to show the meaning of loving heart. “While some simplified characters were adopted from conventional abbreviated forms that have existed for a long time, the vast majority of the changes made by PRC were “unnatural” such as the removal of the symbol for heart (心) from the word love (愛) into the new character (爱).” (Wikipedia) This word is hand-written by me (using a wacom pen & tablet). From the Warrior collection, this contemporary Japanese painting is bold in red and white. The Japanese kanji characters in this painting represent the Seven Codes of Bushidō. Bushidō means The Way of the Warrior, the unwritten code of conduct for the samurai warrior of ancient Japanese, and includes: Gi – Justice Yū – Bravery Jin – Benevolence Rei – Politeness Makoto – Veracity Meiyo – Honor Chūgi – Loyalty To some extent, the Bushidō code is similar to the concept of chivalry. The original painting was made with artist-grade acrylics on canvas by the Canadian contemporary artist, Soniei.
